The largest city in Switzerland is a major contemporary art and shopping destination. Important artworks are displayed in the Kunsthaus and the Rietberg Museum, while those who consider shopping an art can hone their skills along Bahnhofstrasse and Niederdorf. Chagall's stained glass windows in the Fraumunster amaze and Zurich's 500 clubs and bars, including several in swimming pools, pulse with life 'til the early hours. This city on Lake Zurich has excellent public transit and a free bike rental system.

The Museum fur Gestaltung Zurich is the leading Swiss museum for design and visual communication. Through its changing exhibitions on the university campus, at its second site, the Toni-Areal, the museum builds bridges to the research and teaching undertaken at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), presents experimental projects, and takes a stand on current design debates. The Toni-Areal also houses the museum’s collections, which can be discovered on guided tours. The four collections — decorative arts, design, graphics, posters — are now united under one roof for the first time since 2014.

In a multimedia exhibition, the first and only financial museum in Switzerland – a country known for its banks – explains the origins of the economic system and the role of the stock market. What are stocks? How are they traded on stock exchanges? And are we heading toward a cashless future? Audio installations, interactive video sequences and touchscreen animations provide visitors to the museum with a fun way of learning more about the players, processes and developments in the Swiss financial centre. For the first time, the general public is able to see a simplified version of the training programme used to prepare stockbrokers for working on the Swiss stock exchange, while the "stock exchange game" lets visitors run through a day on the Swiss stock exchange.
When my husband told me there was a Finance Museum in Zurich, I told him I was at best neutral in my interest to go there! But we decided to take the tram out to the museum, and I ended up loving it. It was a winter weekday, and we had the museum to ourselves. We read just about all the displays, and listened to the commentary on one of our cell phones. They give you directions on how to download the program, and it is easy to use. We didn't have headphones, which didn't matter, since again-- we had the museum to ourselves. It is not a big museum, but it is filled with info. I found myself fascinated by the old stock cert's, one that went back to the 1600's and the Dutch East India Company! Both my husband and I strongly recommend this small museum, which is in a fancy finance building.
