Look out for the lesser spotted head gardener and her sidekick who will be more than happy to help you with info regarding the huge range of rare and beautiful plants in the walled garden. Definitely worth a visit- especially the fantastic Palm house with its 400 varieties of weird and wonderful plants!! Enjoy!!

Brixham Heritage Museum was delighted to be awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for 2015, the third year running, thank you all for making this possible! We were also joint winners of the Family Friendly Museum Award in 2013,despite nationwide competition. We offer a choice of activities which are suitable for a variety of ages, and we hold many 'special days' both within and outside of our Museum. There are opportunities to become amateur archaeologists, no matter how young, and many other "hands-on" experiences are found on both floor levels inside the building. For all visitors there are a variety of displays ranging from the prehistoric to the 1950s, with particular emphasis on the maritime industry of the area. We also offer Family History Research for all areas, and hold regular talks and social activities. For further information please view our website.
As someone who has been to hundreds of museums, this one is excellent. A Tardis-like gem, it has a wide variety of exhibits which are well presented. The text panels have just the right amount of detail. Children also seemed to be engaged by various objects on display. In COVID times, they have installed an easy-to-follow one way system, and they limit guest numbers on entry.

Bygones is three floors of pure nostalgia for ALL AGES! Whether it be History, Railwayana or Militaria, you will reminisce! Wander back in time, visit our authentic life-size Victorian Street, see the Blacksmith hard at work, smell the treats of the Sweetshop, listen to the hustle and bustle of Victorian life. Imagine yourself in the nursery, kitchen, parlour or even the dentist! As you meander up to the top floor, hop on the 27-ton steam engine en route! Arrive in the 20th Century, take a break in our Station Café for a range of cakes and refreshments. Marvel over our completely refurbished model railway themed around English villages in WWI and WWII. Consider your ancestors in a WWI trench or taking cover in a WWII Anderson Shelter. Don’t miss the 1950’s and 60’s shopping arcade filled with post-war packaging and household items.
I loved it, it has the most amazing collection of almost anything that you could think of and there is something for everyone here. The recreation of a Victorian street is superbly done with so much attention to detail, there is an outstanding collection of military memorabilia, I was amazed by the railway artefacts including an ex Falmouth Docks steam locomotive. It is hard to do Bygones justice without an extremely long explanation of what is there. Fascinating to see old packaging, toys, kitchen equipment, the recreation of a dentists, a door from Dartmoor Prison, the list is endless. The welcome was friendly and I had an interesting conversation with the owner. It is said of many places that they are not to be missed but Bygones really is a place not to be missed. I think that to do it justice you would need to pay many visits as there is so much to see and take in.

The Golden Hind in Brixham Harbour, is one of only two full sized replicas in the world of 16th century explorer and privateer Sir Francis Drake's famous ship. The Ship has been a feature of picturesque Brixham harbour for over fifty years, entertaining and educating thousands of visitors during this time - as well as being featured on many tv programmes and films. The Ship is open come rain or shine and is an all weather attraction with many indoor displays as well as wide open decks and on-board activities.
And a three year old grandson!!! - who really enjoyed it , would have loved to spend much more time reading the facts and filling in the questions to our quiz properly , but a three year old who loves pirates , the boats wheel and lots of cannons made this far too exciting!! Good value and a lovely `pirate ` thing to do in Brixham....I even managed to drill in the name `Francis Drake` so a little history lesson aswell...great effects and loving our history!!

Popped in to look at the pictures and ended up coming home with one. It is so unusual for the two of us to agree that when we did we had to buy it and it looks beautiful hung at home now. Family business with very informative, passionate and helpful people who made the visit more than a browse around. Lovely view of the harbour too.

WW11 Coastal Battery.Museum and Grounds Free Entry open Monday Friday and Sunday afternoons 2-4pm plus special open days..
I found this place on Tripadvisor and got very lucky that the day we were traveling it was open. Since it was February we were able to park right across from it in the holiday lets car park, though this probably isn't advised! There is parking up the road with a short walk downhill to the battery. Inside its chock full of interesting items and weapons that you can actually get your hands on! The volunteers really make this place though. They are friendly, full of knowledge and charismatic and bring history to life. It's not a big place but there is a lot to look at, I'd say an hour or a little more would be enough time to see everything. Inside. it's flat and accessible, so it's suitable for anyone that might have access issues to explore and a lot of the items have descriptions in large text. They also do full open days, I plan to come back to see one but it's worth going when they are open in general too, don't wait! It's great for all the family, especially because you can get hands-on, even if you're not an enthusiast for the subject their passion is contagious.

Travel back through 400 million years of time at Torquay Museum - a hands-on family-friendly visitor attraction, with lots to see and do for children and adults alike. A wide variety of exhibitions are hosted throughout the year by the Museum, from child-friendly summer blockbusters to fascinating exhibitions about South Devon's amazing archaeology, geology and people. Detect your way through Britain's only Agatha Christie gallery at Torquay Museum, come face-to-face with North-West Europe's oldest human fossil and explore Ancient Egypt, including the coffin of a 2,500 year old mummified boy. Then follow the incredible journeys made by Torquay's famous explorers, from the frozen wastes of the Antarctic to the depths of the Brazilian rainforest.
We usually are in Torquay for the Agatha Christie festival and attend events at the Museum. It has an interesting display of various exhibits, a lovely shop with loads of books and gifts and a very nice cafe. It is within walking distance of Torquay and well-worth a visit.
