The Blue Mountains are named for the delicate azure haze that lingers along the region, which is actually a fine cloud of oil emitted by eucalyptus trees. The mystical mountains are a labyrinth of plateaus, gorges and gum trees. Check out the Katoomba Scenic Railway (the steepest railway in the world), the Jenolan Caves and the Giant Staircase nature walk.

Set in beautiful grounds the gallery/cottage allows one to fully experience a sense of the life and works of this great Australian artist. We stayed in the cabin on the property which was clean, comfortable and with every amenity one would need. The staff were courteous, helpful and very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. The whole stay was very reasonable and overnight included admission to the gallery and a voucher for the lovely cafe which is also on the property, serving delicious breakfasts and lunches. Centrally located, it is a very good launching point to see other attractions that the Blue Mountains have to offer.

Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum Valley Heights (approx. half an hour from Katoomba) steam tram ride, trains, carriages, model trains, memorabilia, small cafe and souvenir shop This was an amazing day out for the whole family. You can enthuse over the model trains, ride the stream tram and climb in and out of all the big old trains and carriages. If you're lucky you will even get a chance to 'toot' the train whistle! My kids especially liked how they could turn all the knobs, press buttons, switch switches and move leavers. The cafe serves light refreshments, tea & coffee, sandwiches, pies & cakes OPEN 10am-4pm (last ride at 3:30pm). Check their website for their open days. One of the great mining museums of New South Wales, and a hub for the arts and creativity. Come and see our award winning "Fire in the Mine" light and sound show, which tells the stories of working underground in the Lithgow region coalfields in the 20th century. There are many more interpretations of coal and oil shale mining. We also have facilities to host luncheons and wedding receptions.
We were very impressed with this place. There are plaques relating to all the bits and pieces with the relative information which was very educational and well presented. The amazing work that was done by those long ago without the machinery we have today is incredible,

Art Gallery in Wentworth Falls, showing works by some of the major award winning Australian Artists. Established over 25 years in the Blue Mountains and set in almost an acre of stunning landscaped gardens. Works on display by artists, Wendy Sharpe, Garry Shead, Arthur Boyd, Anne Smith, Bernard Ollis, Charles Blackman and John Olsen. Ceramics by Ian Smith.
My partner and I were ready for a bush walk down to the falls but unfortunately weather was not on our side so we decided to head into the Gallery which was just down the street. The gardens alone are beautiful. The art works inside were fantastic, Ian and Anne were very welcoming and happy to answer any questions we had. Highly recommended checking the place out if you’re in the area.

The history of the Lithgow Small Arms Factory is about people - their aspirations, achievements and disappointments, the economic and social hardships endured, the influence of our British heritage on Australia in the early 1900s, and sheer human stubborness. It is also about the introduction of new technologies into the emerging new nation. Lithgow SAF was Australia's first high precision mass production facility. This Museum was formed to celebrate its history. Situated on the existing Factory site, this unique museum is widely recognised for its comprehensive collection of modern firearms from around the world, but more than that, it is a showcase of Australian manufacturing. Displays show the production processes and social history of this renowned facility. Visitors are amazed by the myriad of commercial items produced which provided the Factory's lifeblood between wars and preserved the valuable skills of its workforce.
The museum features an amazing collection of small arms from the era when they were first mass produced to the current day. From pistols to heavy machine guns there are weapons from a range of countries. Many exhibits are unique because of their designated purpose or amazing engraving. Even for those who have no affinity for weapons as such, it is difficult not to be impressed at the innovation, dedication to precision and engineering marvels that created these works. Former employees of the small arms factory are available as guides to add additional colour and detail to the story of many of these display items. It is easy to spent a couple of hours at the museum. Highly recommended
