Now that casinos have spread in South Africa, Sun City is no longer the only gaming hotspot in the country, but it's still visually dramatic. Located two hours from Johannesburg, it's a sprawling complex of luxury hotels, restaurants and Vegas-style shows on the edge of Pilanesberg Game Reserve.

Haven’t stayed a Thakadu River, but I highly recommend Madikwe. Not as big, clearly, as Kruger, but uncrowded and less expensive than the fancy places in the Greater Kruger. Stayed at Tau and Buffalo Ridge.

Darren's input made the difference for a group of 4 enthustiastic hikers that took on Mafadi, Drakensberg during December 2020. Even although the group didn't go with Darren, he made sure our team was well equipped with route plans, conditioning and training plans, etc. Darren's love for the mountains is contagious and he was really a great sport sharing from his experiences and in entertaining all our questions and sharing his expert advise. The input Darren gave us on meal plans, gear plans, travel plans was highly appreciated. The trip would not have been a success without Darren. Unfortunately, I had to pull out of the trip on the morning we were set to head to the berg, but hearing first hand from the experience of my friends, if you are going to the berg , tackling any sizeable peak or range you don't want to tackle it without Darren, or at least first calling him!

I highly recommend this tour. Norman, my guide for the day, came to the hotel to pick me up. We drove to the Apartheid museum where he left me inside to explore. 2.5 hours later we met outside and were on our way to Soweto. Touring the various neighborhoods in Soweto gave me a great overall view of the area. We stopped at the Hector Peterson memorial and then at the Mandela house. At the end, Norman drove me back to the hotel. Norman was a very charming guide and very knowledgeable of the history of the area.

This overnight tented safari tour is jammed packed with game drives, wild animals, camp fires, traditional South African food and good old fashioned fun. What to expect on this overnight safari? It may at first seem like South Africa’s largest botanical garden but we promise you that there are animals lurking around nearly every bush. The tour includes over 12 hours of game drives where you will get the opportunity to view the wild animals in their natural environment. How we roll? We make use of proper canvass tents that just ooze ‘safariness' and include comfortable camping stretchers with a mattress. And just to make sure you don’t lose touch of those creature comforts, we even have a bedside light, duvets and fluffy white pillows. The rest of the camp comprises of a cooking/mess/communal tent. The traditional dinners are served under the stars next to roaring camp fire.
Inclusions: Lunch, Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast, Overnight accommodation in a safari tent ( showers and toilets are communal and separate from the tents), 12 hours of game drives, All return transfers from you hotel
Exclusions: Alcoholic drinks (available to purchase)
Part fun. Part culture. Part great food. Part outstanding service. Really enjoyed this tour of the lesedi cultural village followed by the lion park. Lions where so cute. Never knew how big they got. My highlight besides the traditional lunch was the drumming and dancing with the warriors. I made a fool of myself but so worth it. The guides and service from the team was just fantastic. Will book again next year with them for our cape town conference

Black Rhino Game Lodge offers luxury accommodation in the Pilanesberg National Pak. Unlike any other national game park, the Pilanesberg hosts a combination of animal, bird, insect, reptilian and vegetation species, such as the Brown Hyena, Springbok, Red Eyed Bulbul and Camel Thorn tree. These species are normally found in dry areas, co-habitat with Impala, Black Eyed Bulbul and the Cape Chestnut trees are normally found in wetter areas. The Pilanesberg National Park is a perfect combination of the Kalahari and the wetter Lowveld. A major advantage of the Pilanesberg is that it is ‘Malaria Free’, which is not the case with other game parks further north. Sun City, best known for hosting the Million Dollar Golf Challenge and other spectacular events, lies on the border of the Pilanesberg, and is only a 33km drive from Black Rhino Game Reserve.
Inclusions: Dinner, Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast, Lunch, 2 nights accommodation, National Park fees, Meals as per itinerary (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner), Driver/guide, Local guide, Professional guide, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Port pickup and drop-off, Private tour, Transport by air-conditioned minivan, Transport by private vehicle, Bottled water, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Coffee and/or Tea
