We spent a fabulous week on Korcula with Zoran and his team. This really is a brilliant option for a family holiday - we had excursions every day and were always accompanied by experienced and knowledgable guides who went the extra mile to make sure we had the best time. We were apprehensive about travelling during the pandemic but any anxiety quickly went away and we didn't give it a moments thought until we flew back. Korcula really is a beautiful place and I couldn't recommend this holiday more highly - we'll be back.

My husband, two sons and me booked a one-week catamaran trip with Anchor and Wine in 2018 for our 20th anniversary. We knew we wanted to see Split and Dubrovnik but had no idea what else to see and do in Croatia. The owner Silvia was so kind and patient in explaining everything and creating our week, because we had no idea how it works. I had no idea my husband was secretly arranging with them small vows renewal for us in a Franciscan monastery near island Korcula. The most intimate and beautiful event on this trip. A local monk, my husband, sons and me. The old monestary decorated with tiny white flowers and a few candles. Thank you girls for organizing that, you did more than you know!

The short story: Huck Finn staff were duplicitous and downright rude . They lied to our faces in person, during our vacation. And, after returning home, after 4 months of correspondence with the owner and with a representative from The Clymb, through which we booked the trip, all parties refused to do the right thing and make good on what was agreed upon during our trip to Croatia. Huck Finn staff was not concerned about our comfort or our safety. There were no life vests or kayaks available to properly fit my husband (despite that he provided his height and weight prior to travel). My husband and I are experienced paddlers and often kayak on rivers and in the ocean-- but we were appalled and afraid for ourselves and others during our first day’s outing. Our guide Tony abandoned inexperienced kayakers in cold/deteriorating weather and water conditions. Instead of making sure everyone stayed together--at least within sight of each other-- and returned safely, he allowed our group to disperse and ultimately he paddled back alone. (We recently were kayaking with a tour in Baja, Mexico, where the staff were knowledgeable, helpful, professional and, most importantly, safety conscious. The contrast between them and Tony/Huck Finn was glaring.) Clarification We took this trip in May 2019, but that date didn't appear in the menu below. The long version: We are not naïve, privileged tourists. We have travelled extensively worldwide, and experienced all manner of adventures. We are happy with homestays and camping, comfortable showering in waterfalls and using pit toilets. In Sipan, we were not expecting luxury accommodations, but we were hoping (given that Huck Finn describes the lodging as 3-star-guest house) to be able to at least comfortably shower and rest comfortably after bike riding and kayaking and hiking. When the shower flooded the bathroom on our first day, we alerted the staff at the guest house/restaurant that we needed towels and/or a mop and bucket to clean up. We waited for more than an hour and a half, then went downstairs to again request that someone please give us means to clean up the standing water. The owner retrieved 3 clean towels from a closet just down the hall and handed them to us. We asked him about the possibility of changing rooms. He said there were no other rooms and added that nothing was wrong with our shower. At a group barbeque on that first night, we met others on our trip who were housed in a guest house adjacent to the office. They had enclosed glass showers and showed us their lovely and spacious rooms with sitting nooks for reading and kitchen areas where they could make a cup of tea. Wow! We didn’t make a fuss about the room where we were holed up with its malfunctioning shower. We made the best of it. For one night. For two nights. My husband even gerry rigged a solution for our shower, but still the bathroom flooded. We inquired about availability at a small hotel next door to the guest house and were offered a choice of 2 rooms with balconies overlooking the water, at 90 euro per night. We would gladly pay out of pocket, but told the hotel staff we needed to check to make sure Huck Finn would reimburse us for the next 5 nights before we committed to moving. We went to the Huck Finn office and proposed to Una about our switching rooms, from the guest house to the hotel. We requested that Huck Finn Travel reimburse us for 5 nights lodging/breakfast (Mon – Sat), saying we would use that to pay the hotel directly. She said she would need to check with her boss. We agreed to stop back at the office later that day, after kayaking (described above) . When we stopped by the Huck Finn office later to ask Una about our moving to the hotel and being reimbursed, she agreed that would be fine, and confirmed that we would be reimbursed for 5 nights/breakfasts. We thanked her, and told her we would move to the hotel on Monday morning, prior to the bike riding activity. We asked if we should let the guest house staff know that we would be checking out Monday morning, or if she would. She said she would let them know. We thanked her again, profusely. On Monday, just after breakfast and before a bike ride, we packed our bags, moved out of the guest house and checked into hotel Sipan, just next door. Then we went on the bike ride. Tony told us at the end of the ride that Una would like to see us in the office. We immediately went to see her (around 4 pm) at which point she offered to show us a room in the guest house adjacent to the office -- where others were staying. The room was indeed what one would expect when the description is a 3-star guest house. In fact, it was the very room she had sent photos of when my husband requested photos prior to our trip. (It was far superior to the room we spent the first two nights in, which would not qualify as a 3-star guest house room.) We would have been quite happy with this room, had it been offered to us originally, or even on Saturday or Sunday. But now, we had already moved and checked into the Hotel Sipan for 5 nights, and unpacked our bags, and used the facilities there. Despite that, Una pressured us to switch rooms then and there. We asked why she had agreed the day before that we could move to the hotel and be reimbursed. She had not offered us any other accommodations then—despite that the room she subsequently showed us had, in fact, been empty, according to other guests. We said we were fine where we were, and were prepared to pay the difference, and thanked her for her offer. As we were on our way to dinner on Monday night, Tony summoned us again to the office to speak to Una. We were totally caught off guard when she informed us that there was “a misunderstanding.” For more than an hour, she tried to convince us that we never heard her agree that we would be reimbursed. Tony—who had not been involved in and was not anywhere near our conversation when Una agreed that Huck Finn would reimburse us—told us that Una never would have agreed to it. We reminded him that he was not there. (In fact, when he noticed us talking to Una, he had asked Una if he could help, and she told him no, she could handle it.) My husband and I have NO DOUBT about what Una said to us. Had she not agreed to our move, or had she offered alternate accommodations, we would not be upset by Huck Finn's duplicity. On the heels of that conversation, we wrote an email to Ashley in Adventures Support at The Clymb, alerting her to what now was an uncomfortable situation. It was extremely unsettling to be lied to and then told that there was a “misunderstanding.” We were very clear. There was no misunderstanding. Please understand that we never made a fuss or voiced our displeasure with the accommodations except to talk respectfully and privately with Una. We didn’t want to offend the owners of the guest house. We simply wanted to be comfortable (and clean) for the remainder of our trip. We believe that was within our rights. We didn’t appreciate continued pressure from Una and Tony to move again, after she went back on her word to us. When she insisted that our moving back to the Huck Finn-owned house would be better for Huck Finn, and make her happy, we pointed out that she didn’t seem concerned for our peace of mind, despite that we were her customers on a holiday. My husband offered a creative solution that would have meant no outlay of money for Huck Finn: he suggested that Huck Finn consider covering the expense of the optional day-5 trip – where ever that was going to be. At that point, we were informed there would be no optional trip offered. Period. We did not request a refund because not even one optional activity was proposed/offered/organized on day-5. (When we asked Tony what he would suggest – what he would do during day 5 —as we were interested in going to the national park and/or to Ston—he shrugged; said he would sleep. His casual disregard of our request for info/advice prompted us to enlist the help of the hotel staff to inquire about a taxi or a boat that could accommodate not only us but the rest of the group that was left high and dry.) We only requested the meager reimbursement that was agreed upon -- for for the equivalent of five nights lodging/breakfast at the guest house after we moved to Hotel Sipan. After 5 months of correspondence between us and Huck Finn, even after involving reps from the Clymb travel, we finally gave up.
