This was a great way to relieve our designated driver for a day and so glad we opted for this tour. A lovely little hike to see Pacaya Volcano close-up, we were the first party to ascend that day and glimpsed some lava. The views from the top were well worth it and taking El Arenal route on the descent was an adventure. After the hike, the Kawilal Spa was just the ticket! We even had the whole area to ourselves due to the pandemic, so all felt very safe. The smoothie and lunch there were also very delicious. Could have done with a tad more direction at times, but all part of the fun!

Excellent experience! This was one of the best walking tours I’ve been on. Armando was a great guide, who’s very kind and knowledgeable of the area. He made me feel safe and put a lot of care into making sure you have the best possible experience. The amount of things covered throughout the tour is remarkable. I highly recommend this tour if you plan to visit Guatemala City. Thanks again. ☺️

Okay FIRST OF ALL, Salvador is the best guide we’ve had out of four trips here. The hike was either incredibly hard or we were very out of shape ???? but he worked with us to still have an amazing time. We ended up also birdwatching and found many Quetzales. It was a beautiful time. He’s super knowledgeable, very kind, speaks English/Spanish, and even will offer you a raincoat if you tell him ahead of time! :) I would recommend this hike if you’re a cross fitter or really in to long hikes, but if recommended Salvador taking you anywhere whether you are traveling alone as a female, or this is your first time in Guatemala, or you’re in a family with kids, or a business trip, or literally whatever- he’s the guy!! We felt safe and taken care of the entire day. We can’t wait to come back and see more with him next year and the years to come.

We did some research on the various tours to Pacaya Volcano starting from Antigua and are happy we found A Viajar Guatemala. They offered the most affordable private tour. We didn’t want to travel on one of the regular tours which cost less, but all leave either at 6:00am or 2:00pm in order to do two runs on the same day. We preferred to enjoy our hotel breakfast and opted for an 08:30am departure. The driver arrived perfectly on time and we took off immediately without having to pick up passengers from other hotels first. The driver Miguel was very informative and we enjoyed lots of interesting narrative along the way. Also it was nice that he took a different and very scenic route on the return trip so we got to see the terrible devastation of the 2018 eruption of Volcano Fuego. Ronal, our local guide on Pacaya was phenomenal! He took good care of us and we were chatting with him all the way up and down about living in Guatemala and of course many interesting stories surrounding Pacaya and the surrounding nature. We saw several other guides along the way and how they interacted with their groups and Ronal was probably one of the best! So we highly recommend this agency, no need to go to a more expensive outfit. Their office in Antigua staffed by Alexander was very helpful in the preparation of the trip (what to bring, what to expect)

ACATENANGO BIG-BOLD-BEAUTIFUL This beautiful beast is the volcano that started it all for OX back in 2004. We climb this volcano more than all our competition combined, rain or shine. Our professional guide team and organized procedures work hard to manage the unpredictable chaos of mother nature. It is all about the details. We want each and every client to have an enjoyable time no matter where the adventure takes us.
Inclusions: Dinner, Breakfast, Bilingual professional guide, Transport by private vehicle to and from Antigua, Lunch, dinner and breakfast on the volcano, Free rental of all gear (backpacks, sleeping bags and warm clothes), Hot drinks and wine!, Bottled water, Alcoholic Beverages
Exclusions: Park Entrance Fee (Q50)
I booked a tour through OX for the morning for a volcano hike. They sent several confirmation emails to be at their store by 5:45 to leave by 6:00. When I arrived the rest of the group was waiting outside on the curb. The OX door was closed and nobody was answering. We all called the "emergency number" and emailed and waited for over an hour. Nothing. We came back when they said they opened online at 9:00 and waited again on the sidewalk. Nothing. Around 10:30 we got messages saying, despite the confirmations, they thought we were leaving at 2:00 PM, not 6:00 AM. They apologized, which I appreciated. But they also said to still attempt the tour we would still all pay full price after all of this waste of time. It didn't feel they made any effort to do right by their customers and didn't care that we had spent half a day trying to track them down for a tour or a refund. We all booked the same tour for 1/3 the price ($20 vs $60) from a hostel and enjoyed it a lot. Would not use OX for anything given our experience.
