New York State has it all – booming metropolises, majestic waterfalls, mountains, wine country, chicken wings. Yes, NYC is a magnet for tourists, but an exploration of the rest of the state can be equally thrilling. The Finger Lakes Wine Region is a vision of serene waters, quaint B&Bs, and pretty vineyards. Movie buffs will love Rochester, home of the George Eastman House and one of the world’s most comprehensive film archives. On your way to Niagara Falls, stop in Buffalo to fuel up on spicy wings.

Non-profit cinema and film buff's hangout.
The films shown here are curated with passion, intellect, respect for the filmmaker and his/her audience. Here in NYC we have a number of art house cinemas, but none invoke the timelessness of the genre quite like the Film Forum. Sign in to their website to get a true sense of what I'm saying. Additional perks: excellent coffee, organic chocolates and ice cream sandwiches, etc.

Symphony Space presents a varied mix of media and live performances including dance, chamber, folk, and new music and film.
i went there to see Sam Heughan and Josh Horowitz do a live podcast. the theater is a decent size and has an interesting balcony. most everyone i spoke with could see well wherever they were seated. they had no trouble accomodating me in my electric wheelchair. they keep a space in the front row on the aisle for handicapped people

The Lafayette Theatre, named for the Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette, was designed by architect Eugene DeRosa and its construction completed in 1924. Originally, it was equipped with a custom-designed Muller organ to accompany silent films and live performances. The silent film “Scaramouche” directed by Rex Ingram was the first to grace its screen. At that time tickets cost 25 cents! The theater became home to live vaudeville shows and film presentations and has since remained a single screen movie theater. In the late 1980s, the old stage was redone and the New York Theatre Organ Society installed a new organ, the Ben Hall Memorial Mighty Wurlitzer. The Lafayette remains a single screen movie palace to this day.
One of the last old time movie theater marquees. The moment you walk through the doors you feel like you went back in time, old style theater setting with balcony seats, they show both new and older movies. Even holiday themed favorites along with Abbott & Castello, old time movies and kid favorites, the whole family will enjoy the atmosphere. Plus they have an old school organ player on certain nights. Great pricing and even special Saturday matinees. Definitely put this on your bucket list! Highly recommended!

In a day and age where going to the movies is becoming a more expensive and luxurious experience, this enduring and rare piece of old school Americana brings the simplicity and nostalgia back to the movie industry. The staff is very organized, making both the purchasing of tickets and the process of parking quick and seamless. I'd recommend getting there about an hour early to ensure plenty of time to get a good spot, hit the snack bar and use the restrooms if needed. My wife and I were situated in the first row (which isn't a travesty at a drive-in theater!) and watched from the front seats of our car while tuned in through the car radio. If you're planning on seeing the double feature, the price of tickets absolutely can't be beaten. We actually ended up spending more money on food than we did on the tickets and we were lucky enough to see two excellent movies. All in all we spent maybe 5 or 6 hours at the theater. Though I'm too young to have been around for the height of the drive-in movie business, I have to imagine that this would be a like trip back in time for people of a certain age. It fulfilled my every expectation and I'm looking forward to going back again soon.

Love that there is a drive-in in the area and it is doing a great job of maintaining the fun off going to see a movie in your vehicle!!! Brought back so many great childhood memories. Highly recommend for a different nighttime family activity ????
