A wonderful, charming and intimate theatre with lovely staff. A great experience, and I highly recommend getting a glass or two of bubbles while you enjoy the show!

The Paragon Theatre opened on October 28, 1933 to a capacity crowd of 1150. After a chequered history which saw it gutted and repurposed as an indoor cricket stadium in 1985 before closing down for over a decade it then underwent a major restoration in the early 2000's. After being closed again for 3 years we bought the theatre in July 2017 and are continuing the restoration. During the warmer months you can enjoy dinner in the beautiful main hall before relaxing on a leather couch to watch an old classic movie, perhaps with a glass of wine/beer or one of our famous house-made whiskey choc-tops. If you don't have time for dinner and movie you can do a self-guided tour of the theatre, for a small fee, to learn about its history and just enjoy the space. Tours generally available all year round. We also have events throughout the season including musical concerts and plays so we hope you will join us in our quest to make The Paragon Theatre the entertainment hub of Western Tasmania.
This theatre is a "quiet" attraction - low publicity and on a side street but it is a wonderful attraction of Queenstown. The new owners, who also conduct a range of tours in the Gordon River and Queenstown area, have continued the restoration in great style. The theatre area, now used for regular "fine dining with a movie", is a beautiful example of an art-deco theatre, and for just a few dollars visitors are able to enjoy a self-guided tour. Don't forget the old projection room with its arc light projector.

This was a very special night, sitting under the stars watching a great movie with the back drop of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. We paid the extra to book the restaurant and our seats, well worth it. It was sereal not knowing what to watch the screen, the opera house or the possumns playing in the aisles. A Must Do

The Astor is one of the last single screen movie palaces left in the world, showing movies continuously since being built in 1936, and transporting you to a time when going to the movies was an event.
This place is incredible. I was brought here a month or two ago for the first time and have been back several times since, always keen to go again. The art deco styling of the place is awesome, it feels so grand and yet somehow still welcoming. This is probably due to the friendly and enthusiastic staff. On one occasion there was a build up of popcorn orders and the staff offered to bring the popcorn to us in the theatre (an extremely large theatre at that) instead of waiting at the counter. I love classic movies and its clear everyone at the Astor does too, the place is filled with old posters and nods to some of the best movies of all time. They regularly play classic and cult movies but also play new releases as well, often in 70mm film. If you want a grand cinema experience and to see a film the way it's truly intended to be seen then there's really no other place that comes close to the Astor. One of my absolute favourite places.

The Ritz is unquestionably the best cinema (complex) in Sydney. It maintains the original single auditorium with stalls and circle and many new, smaller screens. All have state of the art presentation but the original auditorium can project film stock including 70mm. We saw a preview of TENET and plan to come back to see it again at the Ritz in 70mm again. Social distancing practices in place made us feel safe to return to the cinema. Thank goodness for this!

The Mansfield Armchair cinema is a not for profit community organisation showing all blockbuster new release films in both 2D and 3D. Upgrades are available to sit in the luxurious armchair recliners or HUGE double beanbags at a small cost. The cinema is fully digital with excellent sound and picture and is run by school based apprentices from the local high school.
We watched ‘The Dry’ in the comfort of spacious recliners at the Mansfield cinema. Side note - the choc tops were delicious. Tops & cones crunchy. Popcorn was fresh too. Highly recommend.

Located in North Hobart, the State is a local independent cinema that has entertained generations of Tasmanians for over 100 years. In addition to eight cinema screens, we also have a boutique bookstore, cafe bar and rooftop cinema. Our cinema is licensed, so you can enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying a movie!
Didn't eat this time but had good coffees to take into our movie! Cinemas are comfortable, clean and warm. Cafe is great for a light meal too!
