The views from the top are magnificent and are worth the steep hike up to the top. To get to the start of this hike you can take a boat from Paraty Mirim for 250 reais (return) which takes approx. 20 minutes each way. Make sure you got plenty of water with you as you will need it. The walk to the top will take you between 60 and 90 minutes depending on your fitness. It's best to wear proper shoes for this hike. I wouldn't do this walk after it has rained as it would make it very difficult to not slip. You can't really go wrong on your way up as the path is narrow but easy to follow. You walk in shade 90% of the time but there may not be a single breeze until you reach the very top. It's worth the sweat once you stand on the top and look down.

Martin was a an absolute joy to work with. He is professional and knowledgeable while still making the experience fun and enjoyable. We completed both the parrot peak hike and also the sunset canoe trip. Martins tours are an amazing experience and I highly recommend him if you enjoy staying active while on the island. During our time we were able to experience a variety of unforgettable moments including watching one of the most spectacular sunrises I’ve ever seen and swimming with bioluminescence. Martin keeps the mood light and also provided us with amazing photos of the entire adventure for no additional cost. 10/10 recommend!

We decided to climb Pico da Bandeira, Brazil's third highest peak, in mid-January in spite of wet weather forecast in line with the rain season. We travelled by car from Rio, a 7 hrs drive with a stop over in Teresopolis. The drive to Alta Caparao, the overnight base for the hike, is a beautiful never-ending landscape of green ⁶hills covered in tropical forest or v withn flowing down the muddy and rocky paths. From Tronqueira, it is about a 3 hrs up and 3 hrs down to reach Pico da Bandeira. The path is a mix of forest at lower altitude and open rocky but mostly green terrain at higher ones. You pass beautiful waterfalls and swimming holes. On a cloudy day visibility may not allow for good views, but on the way back we were given a chance to see clear skies and enjoy a mesmerisint view over Minas (see picture). Some of the best views ever.

One of the most beautiful attractions in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most famous in Brazil. Our mission is to take people to an enchantment, fun and entertainment journey – providing happy and unforgettable experiences as well as valuing Brazilian culture. We constantly invest in safety, comfort and innovative technologies. Our locations constitute natural, geological, historical, and touristic landmarks in the city of Rio de Janeiro. As a natural landmark, it reminds us of our reference to the sailors who come to Guanabara Bay. As a geological landmark, it reminds us of our geological site precisely dating the history of our planet. We also talk about historical landmark because on March 1, 1565, Estacio de Sa founded the City of Sao Sebastiao in Rio de Janeiro literally on its feet. And, finally, touristic landmark because the Cable Car opened on Sugarloaf projected Brazil’s name worldwide. It has been the first cable car installed in Brazil and the third in the world.
A different vantage point from the top of Corcovado with more land views than water views (or water seen past land), the top of this so-called 'Sugar Loaf' is actually kind of an "opposite nature" with more views of water than land from its two viewing areas (each of which kind of double-decked): one area facing north with a great wide view of Guanabara Bay & the "long bridge" at some distance straight ahead and from which there's also a view of a good-sized portion of the city (with a pretty nice skyline actually in a big sprawling area of modern high-rises) to the left & across the water with also some nice-looking beaches on that side; and another area facing south with the "open sea" & really quite a phenomenal view of the "entire length" of Copacabana Beach from the hill of Forte Duque de Caxias just shortly from this mountain to Forte de Copacabana on the other end about 3 km away (which is actually what to me was the "most worthwhile" view from this mountain top). I would just say a bit on the downside though is "not much" of ground to walk around up here, but yes there's Morro da Urca shortly below (just about a 5-minute cable car ride away which you have to come through to get up to this mountain top) which is "like a small park" for a nice walk around with also some old cable cars displayed outdoors, a small building with some cable car machinery on display, a small forest trail on a raised platform or such & yes the same views as from above (except for that of Copacabana to the south which cannot be seen from this "lower top") but actually kind of better I would say when it comes to some views such as that of the high-rises to the west across the water & that of the boats in the water also to the west (quite a number of those pleasure vessels to see actually!). And also, pretty nice for browsing and enjoying time up here (on the tops of both Sugarloaf & Morro da Urca) are some nice souvenir shops & restaurants & even a gemstone shop with beautiful sculptures of birds & such made of those stones (quite pricey ones though). And with no metro station close by, one way to not have to spend too much for taxi getting here is by taking the metro to Botafogo Station (both Lines 1 & 2) where you can take a cab outside for just a short ride of 5 to 10 minutes to the cable car station on the bottom of Morro da Urca where you start your "two-part" cable car ride (each just for about 5 minutes) first to the top of Morro da Urca then all the way up to the top of this mountain (which yes resembles a loaf of sugar but a "green one").

Monte Serrat is on a big hill, surrounded by nature. There are a lot of trees, plants and bushes. It is near the historic center. Depending on the weather, you can have a very good view of the harbor, the waterfront and the open sea. It is also possible to see Guarujá and one part of the Santos canal. On the top of the hill there are two constructions from different times. The church Nossa Senhora de Monte Serrat was built in the beginning of the XVII century, when Brazil was still a colony of Portugal. The other building is the casino Monte Serrat. This cassino began to be built in the beginning of the XX century, but on behalf of the world war, it just finished being built in 1927. This casino was very popular, but in 1946 the government prohibited casinos here in Brazil. Nowadays the building is used for events and parties. It is open to the public. There is a cafeteria inside the building. The construction and the decoration of the place is really pretty. The view of the rooftop is stunning and breathtaking. To go up there you need to take cable car, and to go down, you can use the cable car again or go downstairs. There is a chapel built between 1598 and 1603. The chapel is part of the miracle story in which Joris Von Spielbergen and his crew wanted to attack the village of Monte Serrat. The locals ran away to the chapel to pray to Nossa Senhora de Monte Serrat. They were afraid to die. While the pirates were climbing the mount a rock avalanche started and killed every one of the crew, but Joris didn’t die because he was in the harbor waiting for them. We strongly recommend visiting the place.
