A memorial to the Soviet soldiers from Moldavia who lost their lives in the Afghanistan War, a war that lasted 9 1/2 years. This war is also referred to as the Soviet Union's Vietnam War or the Silent Bear. The similarities between the Soviet Afghan War and America's Vietnam War are almost identical. Both Soviet Union (9 1/2 years) and the USA (8 years) lost wars that they believed they would win in only a few months; but were severely defeated. Both the Soviet Union and USA retreated and evacuated Afghanistan and Vietnam. Both wars were political. This is considered one of the leading causes of the fall of the Soviet Union.

For those interested in Jewish history (and historical Kishinev had a major Jewish community), this memorial to the ghetto during WWII is a very important place to visit.

This statue is on the opposite side of Cathedral park...if you are looking for it..aits located at the top of the street opposite the park almost in the middle of the street. The statues display a boy waiting for a girl with flowers. It seems to attract lots of people who want to take a photo with it. I will recommend you visit if you are close by Cathedral park.

The monument is a symbol of the Moldavian history- a 5 minutes stop is enough to admire the statue of the Stefan the Great !

Although the monument needs a bit of refreshing and to be kept continuously in a better state, this represents a very important and tragical moment of the place, balancing from one side of the history to the other during the 39-45 period - the building is incidentally very close to what was the jewish ghetto during WWII, what the memorial to the victims of the ghetto recalls, a dozen feet from there. Very socialist realist in its style, it's worth a glance as it's close to the pedestrian street and to several nice cafes and restaurants on Ierusalim Street/Grigore Vieru.

I feel sorry for this coin that the rating is so low. It is next to the faculty of finance and celebrates Moldova’s own currency. Stop by and see it!
