The second most populous town in North Germany, Bremen brings the high-tech, science and space industries together beneath a truly metropolitan backdrop. In a city where innovation, beauty and sophistication meet, it's impossible not to feel the life force. In this 1,200-year-old Hanseatic city, visit the Schlachte Promenade on the River Weser, the full-sized Columbus Space Module of the International Space Station and the Universum Science Center. Oh, and "Hanseatic" refers to an alliance of trading cities in the 13th-17th centuries. But you probably knew that.

The Roland Statue clearly has some stature. An imposing large statue in the old market square - a great historical monument.

I really loved this artwork as it made me smile and was obviously a good photo opportunity. This is actually a tribute to the talented Vicco von Bülow or Loriot (1923-2011). It certainly makes people smile when they see it and is a good tribute to the him as he was after all a comedian, humourist and cartoonist amongst other things. I like to think that he is sitting here happily having a quick snooze after attending a party or after having a really fancy meal somewhere. Whatever he is doing it makes people smile, so well done to Roman Johann Strobl who made this with the help of Patrick Przewloka who painted it. Go along and see it – it’s at Loriot platz, a small square next to the Herdentor bridge and the Wallanlagen Park.
