The Danish War Museum houses permanent exhibitions about war, defence and weapon technology, and presents Danish military history from the 1500s until today. Experience the exhibition "Denmark's Wars" in the museum's large Rustkammersal and "A Distant War - a Danish Soldier in Afghanistan", an exhibition in which you can feel the atmosphere of a Danish combat group in Afghanistan.

We went here on a guided tour and had a super interesting and very educational visit to the frontlinie defense of NATO, located at Stevns in Denmark. The tour of the underground fortress was the highlight, and the guide introduced us to the facts and a handful of good stories. Definitively worth recommending!

Travel 100 years into the past, to a time when world war raged around Denmark. Explore the many surprising stores and immerse yourself in an era where Denmark is on the brink of war. Denmark must fight for its neutrality and avoid being drawn into the war. It is a time of trench digging, mine laying and great umanitarian efforts. The Danish welfare state is born as politicians intervene to keep the people united, while profiteers make a fortune off the war.

Summer season open museum: June, July and August. For more than 200 years, from its foundation in 1758, the Gunpowder Works in Frederiksværk was the principal supplier of gunpowder and explosives to the Danish armed forces. This open air museum offers a unique glimpse into the history of the manufacture of explosives as well as the process of industrialisation in Denmark. The museum is open every day in June, July and August. Monday is closed. In week 42 open Tuesday to Sunday.

The war museum has a lot of traditional war museum exhibits, with models and displays showcasing battles and weapons. What I found most interesting was the many stories told of the soldiers that participated. In particular the farewell letters from soldiers on a blimp that was slowly sinking into the sea was very powerful and moving.
