Along the Truckee River in the tranquil Truckee Meadow is fast-growing Sparks, Nevada, Reno's less flamboyant neighbor to the east. Although home to only one high rise casino, Sparks offers visitors other pleasures with live festivals and events in open air venues, a lively farmers' market, a multiplex theater and less pricey accommodations than its high-rolling neighbor. Its proximity to both Reno's casinos and Lake Tahoe makes Sparks a perfect destination for a Northern Nevada Vacation.
Things to do in Sparks
We stopped in at this local Spanish Springs restaurant for lunch Sunday. Very basic, average Mexican restaurant decor inside. We ordered the Shredded beef tacos with soft tortillas, two shredded beef crunchy tacos and a cheese quesadilla. The shredded beef was good. Overall there was nothing special or especially good or outstanding. Average is the best way to describe the food here. I don't think we will go back...too many other Mexican restaurants to try that might be better.
Had one of their "Bowls". Would have been nice to not have to search for the chicken content. Sparse is all that I can say. Where's the Chicken?

I took a friend here on a Living Social deal, and will definitely return in the future for a full-priced meal, and I'll instantly snatch-up a Living Social or Groupon for here. Great food for a good price, $3.50 bottles of Sierra Nevada, great service, decent interior, super salsa verde with the tasty chips, and good background music. Don't change a thing Macho Tequilla (except maybe the red salsa that came with the chips).

Came here just before 4pm on on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't busy. Used the restrooms before sitting down, the men's room smelled moldy but appeared clean. I was cautiously optimistic at this point and we were seated promptly. The place has a small bar area that is open to the rest of the restaurant and has a very typical mexican decor. It could use some spiffing up, for example stains on ceiling tile, the booths looked dingy and could be replaced. Chips and salsa were brought to the table which were very good as we looked over the menu. The menu seemed a little odd with some descriptions in english and others in spanish. I ordered chicken enchiladas with green sauce and my husband ordered chicken and beef fajitas. The food came to the table in a timely fashion and was very hot. We had never seen fajitas like that. They were kind of smothered in tomato sauce and tomatoes. My hubby said the flavor of the fajitas was very good. The chicken enchiladas were very good. The baked cheese on top was delicious with the green sauce.Overall summary is that this place is okay. I kept comparing it to another local mexican place and there is no comparison. We would not tell you not to go here, but we feel there are better choices for mexican food in the Reno/Sparks area.

Tried this place years ago and didnt much care for it. Their enchaladas were too spicey. We mived closer and tried again, and is now a favorite. Just ask for the mild sauce on your enchalada....that being said...we love their steak fahitas, and the fahita wrap....and their taco salad and shredded beef tacos and their guacamole and dont forget their margueritas. Lol

We had dinner here on a very quiet Sunday evening, only one other party there when we arrived.Waitress was friendly and helpful when I asked for a sample of a sauce. I had a delicious seafood burrito and a side salad, which was huge and only $1.50 (for the salad)! The creamy avocado dressing is amazing! I had enough left for lunch the next day. The only complaints I have are: 1. She didnât bring my salad until about 10 minutes before our entrees arrived2. With the whole restaurant empty (other than us) why would she seat a party right next to us when we had an infant and two year old, who while very well behaved were at times a little loud? I will return when in the mood for Mexican food!

We love this little hideaway!â¤ï¸â¤ï¸The owner has chef training in two cultures and his products reflect that: fresh, generous and innovative Mexican dishes. YUM. He works very hard, too.The margaritas are outstandingâsimple and delicious, no weird mixers. Service is great and the music, authentic (Can hardly sit still!):)We do miss the vintage red booths a lot, and we would love to see cushions added to at least some of the chairs for our skinny, boomer butts, thanksâ¤ï¸.Check this âlil gem out!!

Met business associates from Minnesota here for dinner. From the fresh, never ending chips and salsa, margaritas and wonderful entrees, Los Compadres never ceases to be amazing. The place was packed, including the outdoor patio, however, service never waned, and the food was cooked to perfection. Try the queso with chorizo! We had Chile Verde, Mexican tacos, chimichangas, taquitos, etc. Everything was spot on including, Pabloâs service!Donât miss out!

One of, if not THE most unique 'hole-in-the-wall' hidden gem restaurants I've ever been to in my life. The place is SUPER small, essentially on has counter seating where you're as close to 3-4' from where Carlillo & staff work their magic. Absolutely amazing to see Carlillo busting his hump creating your dish, & most of it from scratch. The food, from freshness to plating was SERIOUSLY 'on point'. They make their chile rellenos using egg as the 'breading'.... very cool & it works! My wife always bemoans the fact she can't find authentic Mexican fare like she knew from SoCal, this place delivered though, & the portions are big. The prices are more than fair. Carlillo & his couple of guys there made us feel welcome even though we got the impression almost everyone else at the counter were locals. Cannot say enough good about this place. Almost hate to post a review on it as if the cat gets out of the bag it's over....lol. This place is on our 100% 'must hit' each & every time we're in Reno now. Notes: They only have maybe 5-6 parking slots, are closed on Sundays, & close daily at 2pm.

Enjoy your favorite classic Mexican dishes such as Carne Asada, Fish Tacos and Pork Carnitas or choose from a variety of seafood and steak entrees. Our 99 cent margarita is always on the menu, served frozen or on the rocks.
Never disappointed here. Food is great, prices are more than reasonable and drink prices are lower than other restaurants. Service is great too. Munching chips are great..not to crazy about their salsa but they still get an excellent rating from me. The downside is that you have to walk through the casino slot machine area where people smoke (EW) to reach the restaurants. Wish these areas were smoke free!
