We visited Restaurante Rocha at the advice of a friend and reading the reviews, and then went again later in the week. It is quite large and spacious (is stretches far beyond the entrance room with the counter). There is a decent car park at the side of the building. The food consist of a variety of regional and national Portuguese dishes. We tried the baked cod, the pork cheek, roast pork, and beef. All were well-cooked and tasty, as were the cold starters. There is a short but value for money wine list, mostly with local winesRegarding the service, although we arrived very early, spoke virtually no Portuguese and had two small children in tow, we were given a wonderful welcome, with no effort spared to make our meals as pleasant as possible. Value for money is outstanding by English standards. For dinner for 2 plus 2 children, with adults getting three courses plus wine we spent around EUR40.

We ate at the Wine Bar twice during the northern leg of our Portugal trip and had two fantastic meals. Set in a small preserved village, the restaurant is nestled into a storybook setting of winding stone roads and mountain views. While the ambiance is quaint and rustic, the food is refreshingly innovative and offers up some delicious twists on many traditional Portuguese dishes. We ate there with a large group which is the perfect way to sample all the small plates on the menu. Particular group favorites included the bread with chunks of chorizo, quail eggs in little edible nests, stuffed peppers and the amazing octopus salad. While the restaurant is pitched as a wine bar with tapas, the portions are substantial, so we dialed back our second night to lighter dishes which were the ones that really shone. The food was complemented by great service during both of our visits which we all immensely enjoyed. This should be a must stop if you are staying in the Penafiel area - we highly recommend!

The restaurant sits right on the river in a lovely part of the Douro Valley. Food is delicious, well prepared and well presented. There is a good list of wines including a number of by the glass selections for pairing with various courses. Chef Rui Paula was present on the day we visited and was incredibly engaging and gracious to his guests. If the weather is favorable, an outdoor table is a must. Reserve in advance.

Unassuming place - in a family house / garden. Everything served here is homemade, fresh and local. Do not forget to taste also their "de la casa" wine. Restaurant with stone tables is situated in the garden with a stream and a mill, where they sow the flour and bake their own bread. You will meet here mainly the local, so do not hesitate to soak up authentic atmosphere and enjoy their fresh foods.

We scoured the main streets of Penafiel for somewhere for a birthday lunch (for 9 of us) and this place looked like the best bet. A very friendly waiter, with a smattering of English (thank you!), took our booking for the next day and welcomed us effusively when we arrived. The food is standard Portugese fare, so definitely not fine dining, but it's well cooked and, as in many Portugese establishments, comes in copious quantities at very reasonable prices. The wine list was also quite sufficient for our needs, including a very decent port to finish with. For hearty Portugese grub this place does very nicely.

Cozinha da Terra is a family restaurant inside Casa de Louredo that through the 15 years of its life received many gastronomic awards given by the experts of several opinion leaders.Cozinha da Terra wishes that the best prize continues to be the enourmous
From my home to the Cozinha da Terra we have to travel 42km. It is therefore a restaurant that deserves the journey, which is not very common. This time we were challenged by a friendly couple who knows the spot and goes there with some frequency. It is a rural house in stone and wood with the typical aspect of the houses of well-to-do farmers of Minho. The starters were very good. The "pataniscas" were not dry and they still had some fry oil, but the taste and texture were nevertheless at the right point. Then I ate a roast lamb that I had not eaten since my youth when the housemaid in our house in Beira Baixa made a roasted lamb that I still remember with longing. The white wine is produced by the owner's family is of excellent quality. We will be back as it is worth the trip!HelloThank you very much for your kind analysisAll the best for you
