Interesting place... we were the only non-italians there and did not understand everything what is going on. And the dinner started with some appetizers, proscutto, shells filled with meet. We continued with different types of pasta (I was full at this moment), but continued with great half-kilo meet stakes... and desert at the end.Everything was great, but some explanation (on english) would be nice.At the end - 25 Eur / person. Bargain! And it all lasted for 4 hours :)

This is supposed to be a Michelin star restaurant and the food is of that quality. Unfortunately the service is woefully lacking. The Maitre D’ is aloof and seems to be overwhelmed with his responsibility. 8 of us had a fine lunch and the food was very well prepared. However, several times during our meal we were required to get up and refill our wine glasses. The staff seemed not to notice empty wine glasses. This despite the fact we consumed 6 bottles of wine and ended up with a tab of $125.00 per person. You would think a table that generated over $1,000.00 in revenue would have commanded at least a modicum if attention, but alas they were too busy to notice us. I say spend your dollars elsewhere. Someplace where you will be noticed and appreciated. There are many good restaurants in Lucca. This one is not a good choice. At a lower price point it would have rated higher, but it is a very poor value

This small restaurant is behind a butcher's shop. To call it cheap and cheerful would be accurate (we dined very well and paid 125€ for eight people) but would undersell the overall experience. Full of Italians - no tourist joint this. The menu is limited, the decor is modest, but the steak and the mixed grill are excellent. Some side orders of chips, spinach and faggioli - and Bob's your uncle. Only open for dinner on Thursday and Friday but I think lunch is available on other days. Don't bother with dessert and instead just wander 50 yards down the road to the excellent gelateria. Highly recommended if you're happy with a great value steak and chips.

Lucca is littered with restaurants for the typical tourist. This is not one of them. The staff is very friendly. If you don't like the wine they suggested they will more than happy bring you an alternative. The food is excellent and well prepared. All the typical Italian dishes are available, but they taste better than the run of the mill restaurants you will find nearly anywhere. Try the Tiramisu. Although is lacks the almond liqour and egg as ingredients, it tastes as good or even better than your standard Tiramisu. A nice surpiseThank you so much, we really appreciate your words; we are so happy to see our efforts rewarded by such a good review; you got exactly the point of what our mission and commitment are: being different, alternative and not one of those "fake italian" restaurants where tourists are ripped off by stereotyped hosts in a kind of amusement park venues. We hope to see you soon again maybe even in our Pisa restaurant.Best regards

I had lunch here on a rainy Friday in October 2018 en route from San Gimignano to Camaiore. It was somewhat tricky to find amongst the luxurious villas and mansions dotted around this rich, lush landscape on the outskirts of Lucca, but well worth the effort.I accepted the recommendation of Andrea, the patron, of a glass of La Goia di San Stefano which is produced just down the road and is a truly beautiful bianco on the palette, especially with seafood in which this extraordinary restaurant specialises. My starter was a crudità of several types of local fish and shellfish. Presented magnificently on a capacious platter, it was distressing to disturb it's perfection by consuming it, but consume it I did - with relish. My mains was a generous portion of Muggine, also a local fish, white and tender served with a herb and potato pastiche and delicious fresh baby leaves. There was a definite secret ingredient which I would guess involved caramelized lemon. It was truly brilliant. (Andrea, who had taken great pains to explain the menu to me in his easy going and engaging way, insisted on re-cooking the main course as I had left my table as it arrived for 2 minutes.)As a parting digestive and a gift I was given a local gin infused with a herb from a plant which grows only on the local beaches and is much prized for its honey. The bill came to €70 which in my view was well worth it.The bread, coffee and accompanying biscuits were all of exceptional quality. This is quite clearly an exceptional restaurant and will rank as the best ever of a month's holiday in Andalucía and Tuscany/Umbria. Don't miss it if you're ever in the area!

Gatta ci cova

'Gatta' is the one restaurant I booked before we arrived in Lucca. Firstly, the service is delightful. The two ladies at front of house could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We were late arriving and they were very accommodating despite the place being quite busy. The decor is fun and the place is nice and bright. We chose a tasting menu based on fish and seafood. There are some unusual combinations and bright ideas. It started really well with fantastic home baked breads, all nicely seasoned and a lovely amuse bouche of apple and celeriac puree. The soup was a nice, traditional one of Tuscan beans with salt cod and it was tasty but, like the following courses, it was a bit under seasoned for our taste. Despite this, I really enjoyed the following dish of freshwater fish with courgette, pumpkin, balsamic and olive oil - it was beautifully fresh tasting. Neither if us much liked the next pasta dish although I did eat all of mine. The pasta was too 'al dente' for our taste and the sauce a little bland. Seared tuna was next and this time, the seasoning was not too bad but I often find tuna a little disappointing. I was hoping this would be different but I must just have a problem with tuna! Fortunately, desserts were truly delicious and (along with the bread) the highlight of the meal. I still give quite a high rating as I enjoyed the evening very much and the 'seasoning' issue is a personal one. My partner is a chef and I know that chefs vary quite considerably when it comes to this. Also, we could have asked for extra salt - it was a pity there was none on the table. We were asked about food allergies and preferences at the beginning which is always a good thing. I would still recommend 'Gatta'. Its a great experience and a different one in Lucca.

It’s worth the curvy road drive from Stiava to get to this Mecca for delicious steak. The owner meets each patron warmly and his staff is courteous and efficient. My daughter and I had anchovies served with warm bread and butter for our antipasto. The anchovies were delicious. We had a gorgeous perfectly cooked bistecca for our main course served with hot freshly cooked French fries and spinach. With a drizzle of local olive oil the steak was superb. Though we were stuffed we had a tiramisu and Creme Brûlée for dessert. Both of us drank sparkling water, but observed a very nice local wine offering. This is what authentic Italian dining is all about.Don’t miss il Pitoro!!
