As a professional chef I had the privilege of spending an afternoon and evening cooking with the extremely talented Chef/owner of La Locanda Bagnara. Chef Mirko, formerly the Executive Chef at the famous Quisisana Hotel in Capri, uses only the freshest seasonal ingredients and adapts his menu daily to showcase these items. When I visited we cooked no less than 15 different varieties of fish, hand picked by Chef Mirko himself at the fish market in Ravenna. Chef Mirko's passion for cooking shines through in every dish he creates- his philosophy is to use the best ingredients and let them speak for themselves without masking their flavours with cream, butter or strong sauces. Instead he compliments their flavours with fresh herbs, extra virgin olive oil and unobstructed vegetable purees and reductions. In a country where not much emphasis is placed on presentation (because everything looks and tastes so good anyway) Chef Mirko takes pride in making beautiful plates and likes to play with different textures and colours which further enhance his delicious dishes. Following my informative experience Chef Mirko treated me to a divine seafood tasting menu accompanied by a great selection of local wines from his extensive cellar. La Locanda Bagnara is situated in a historic building on the square in the picturesque village of Bagnara di Romagna and is definitely worth the trip if you're in the region. It's good enough to be a destination restaurant and in case you have too much wine, you can always stay over because there are a few rooms available upstairs!

We have been enjoying this restaurant for some years now and the quality and service has always been up to our expectation. If you look for a nice ambient, good regional food and wines and a relaxing atmosphere then you can't miss this place. English language speaking Owner is a plus. Check out the "cappelletti".

A very good place in the main square. Good selection of pasta as well as vegetarian dishes. The desserts were excellent, it would have been nice to have ice cream for the kids, but you can't complain. Service friendly and efficient.

This is a very good restaurant, serving typical dishes of the region & with a relaxed atmosphere - especially on the terrace. we enjoyed here some good time with our Italian friends while travelling in Lugo. Their food is great - the pasta, the meat dishes, the desserts...something to die for. Recommended to those visiting this beautiful area.

Tried a Minestra which turned out to be a potato and onion soup swimming in oil. Thanks tonloads of pepper it has some taste. Pasta with funghi porcini was ok, pasta itself was perfectly cooked, but funghi were quite tasteless.

Piccola osteria a conduzione familiare, propone ricette tradizionali e rivisitate della campagna romagnola in un'atmosfera rustico-romantica d'altri tempi.
We went to this restaurant after reading a positive review in the Italian newspaper La Stampa, and it did not disappoint in any way. From when you enter you are enchanted by the ambience and decor ... a lot of care and attention to detail has been shown in displaying items such as a collection of framed vintage postcards, old railway timetables, kitchen utensils like old coffee grinders and more, all beautifully placed and apparently collected from local flea markets over a number of years. "Binari" means railway tracks which are near the restaurant. The food is excellent, innovative and well presented. Dishes we enjoyed: potato flan filling (no pastry) with gorgonzola, selection of local cheeses with honey, yoghurt and quince paste (in particular we wanted to try Scoparolo, a semi-mature which was delicious), sea-bass fillet baked in foil and risotto with small fresh water crustaceans, chocolate pudding with orange reduction. We drank the local Pignoletto white wine and dessert was accompanied by a glass of Centesimino late harvest red. Total cost 80 Euro which also included excellent bread rolls and breadsticks, crudites with olive oil, one espresso coffee and mineral water. Nicole, the waitress, was attentive and capable. All in all an enjoyable evening and definitely an address to consider for gourmands visiting the area.

On the way back to Bologna from Ravenna, we stopped in Lugo.On a Sunday night Lugo was sleepy, there was not much open.Up on the hill we could see the parasols of a restaurant in the fortress...We discovered "Rocca", a classy, modern Italian restaurant with young staff. It is little pricey, and the cuisine is a bit on the rich side, but romantic and very good food. One of the best white wines by the glass we've had in Italy (the Sauvignon Blanc).No-one speaks English (or French), but we managed. We were the only tourists in the restaurant (or the town, or so it seemed). The restaurant was packed.
