Taverna do Morro

Contemporary taverna where the food, service and decor combine to make you feel at "home". "Welcome", "Enjoy Space" and "Good Appetite" are phrases that more is heard here ... See you later !!!

This establishment has only been open for a month, but judging from first experiences this is here to stay. The decor is different in that all the lights throughout the establishment are in bottles. That is remarkable as there are literally bottles hanging everywhere. Establishment is clean, very well presented and has a controlled climate facility where they store their wines behind glass doors. They have an extensive wine list, mainly from Portugal.Food & WineIn spite of the extensive wine list we chose the Sangria which was excellent. Food was delicious and portions were generous. Its not everywhere in Luanda that you would find freshly grilled tuna steak! Service was friendly and efficient and the manager ensured that all the patrons on the evening were well looked after, through a hands on management style. Will I return... definitely!

We frequent this bar with friends. It has a good view and seems to be pretty popular. Menu is only in Portuguese and staff don't speak in English. Point and order works. Service is slow but on the plus side all cocktails have large percentage of alcohol in it. Food takes a long time to come. Fruit juice is rarely available.Wheelchair accessible. Toilets are clean but a long way off. Food is good and simple. Prices are mid range.Plenty parking available on site. Place is also know as Club Naval. Reservation might be necessary later in the evening.

Business dinner with colleagues. It was supposed to be Portuguese or Brazilian, as the name recalls, but is also a bit Italian and a bit something else, without a precise identity. In any case, it didn't satisfy any of that (too oily, too spicy, too salty, ...).It's a pity, as the location is really nice

Chill Out

Fusion food restaurant by the sea at Ilha do Cabo and vibrant club at weekend nights

Leaving in Luanda, you will end up one day or another in Chill out, next to the same owner's ex-magnificaent Coconuts, on Ilha. There you'll get the fashion, people all dressed up, good service, and acceptable world sophisticated plates, hopefully well served. Nice atmosphere, excellent caipirinhas, overall a very pleasant place to eat out with friends but do not to be astonished by the food. Bill is ok, for such a high end luandan restaurant.

O Madeirense Mar

Reviewed By StraightTalker28

As my title suggests, I'm quite a fan of O Madeirense. The premise of the restaurant is very simple: big blocks of meat are brought to you on skewers, and that's about it. They have a basic collection of starters - garlic bread, calamari (terrible, overcooked, rubber), some potato croquette style things among others. They're all pretty average, which is fine because this place is all about the meat. Here's how it works: there is no menu, the only option is beef on a skewer, which you can request in various states of done-ness, which they actually follow through with, possibly the only restaurant in Angola that does. Without fail - and I have now been here three times - the meat is perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, piping hot, juicy, flavoursome, and overall perfect. I don't know where they source their meet, but I would love to meet the butcher! For a meat lover, O Madeirense is pretty much perfect.I don't know what the desserts are like, but as far as I can tell dessert is a slice of cake from a fridge. I'm sure they don't make them themselves and who knows how long they sit there, so I wouldn't recommend one of those. Besides, if you still have room for dessert, you have not done the restaurant justice. So why not five stars? Well, the starters are average at best, but the biggest factor is the service, which is so bad that it is entertaining. The restaurant is run by an extremely harassed Portuguese couple but the local waiters are absolutely useless. if you want absolutely anything outside of the norm of meat and a beer, it completely falls apart. It takes an eternity, they don't understand or forget, or need to check with someone else first, or lose something or whatever it may be, and the whole system completely grinds to a halt. It's comically awful, even if you request something like a fork. However, this needs to be overlooked and dismissed, because it does not detract from the otherwise fantastic restaurant, and worth visiting again and again.
