Discover Restaurants offering the best Mediterranean food in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Best known as the capital of Charlemagne's Frankish empire, today's Aachen sits at the juncture where Germany meets the Netherlands (the Dutch know it as Aken) and Belgium (where "Walloons" call it Aix-la-Chapelle). But Aachen's history goes back even further than 8th-century Charlemagne. Roman soldiers dating back to the 1st century AD cherished its hot springs (as did Charlemagne, who loved a good spa day just as much as the next guy). Aachen Cathedral, northern Europe's oldest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the city's main attraction.

We had dinner here as a family while visiting my son studying at the University here. This restaurant was recommended by some locals some we decided to give it a try. To be fair, there was some race of some sort going on in town so they were seemingly very busy. That being said, we got our drinks and appetizers right away then waited 90 minutes, yes thatâs accurate, 90 minutes for food. We did get it after seeing people seated at a table next to us get theirs easily half an hour before us and they sat downstairs quite a long time after us. Clearly the kitchen was having major issues keeping up which I donât understand. I wouldnât return here again when there are so many great options in this cute town. Food was average at best.

Quality is not within the design of the interior it is to be found in the food. I was here for business reasons and normally it has to go fast. Now at the restaurant Verano we received such a nice welcome and the service remained excellent through the whole dinner. We went for the specials with homemade ravioli, veal liver and a deer gulash and that appeared to be the perfect choice. We had to pass on dessert but topped it off with a nice glass of grappa on the house. Thumbs up people at the Verano.

I went here last week on a work trip with several colleagues. We asked the hostess about a local drink which has Prosecco and a liqueur and sparkling water in it. She suggested her favorite drink, which she said was more refreshing. It was a mixture of prosecco and some grapefruit liqueur. It was delicious! Great recommendations also followed for food. On Thursdays, they have "small plates" where you can order 4, 6, 8 or 12 small portions of regular menu items. They're served in courses, and they are amazing! We each ordered 6 small plates and were happy with everything we tried. A few standouts were the the Bloody Mary Espuma with grilled prawns (which were actually very small shrimp, but it might have just been the translation) and a risotto with octopus and cashews. Really lovely place; excellent food, great service and a great vibe. Will definitely return next time I'm in town.

This is an attractive and very clean restaurant, well laid out with plenty of privacy between tables. We were seated away from two large groups, which we appreciated. The food is European. Beef Carpaccio was good and the scampi/octopus starter was delicious. We both had the pork which was lovely. A wine was recommended and decanted - we were concerned it was going to be expensive but was very well priced. Too full for dessert. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. Not the cheapest place in Aachen but great for a special night.

My family and I decided to revisit this place after we had been there once before and we thought we had come to appreciate its fast service, great food and friendy staff. This time, we had but a few hours to spent in the city so we ordered but 4 salads and nothing else. After 40min of waiting it became painfully obvious to us that we might be spending the afternoon as sitting ducks waiting for food rather than visiting the city. We finally got the attention of our waiter who told us that there had been a mixup of who was responsible for making the salads but that they would be there in 2-3min. After 10min we finally recieved the salads and the waiter boldly declared that we would come to appreciate the waiting-time since the salad had been prepared with an 'extra amount of love'. Unfortunately, I felt the opposite was the case: The hastily thrown together salad was served with too much dressing drowing out the taste of the ingredients and the dry bread was as tough to bite as a dog-biscuit. I had had the same salad here once before - why the lack of repeatability in quality? Anyway, one should never feel happy to finally be able to leave a restaurant and I regret not simply getting up in the middle of waiting, paying for the water and leaving. I'm sorry, but when you can't get the service part right, that's a big red flag. And if you do, just apologize.Dear Leo,we are very sorry that you had a negative experience at our restaurant. This is usually not the case. We do not want to search for excuses, but just apologize for the inconvenience and promise that the next time, we will do it better.Thank you and best regards!

This is a really great Italian place in the centre of Aachen. The menu is relatively small, but the resultant food is excellent. Service is friendly and the ambiance is good too. There are only a few tables, so booking is essential.

... eine der ersten Adressen für gepflegte Gastlichkeit in angenehmer Atmosphäre und mit freundlichem Service !
If you're the type that likes 'old fashioned German food' eg schnitzel with pommes and vegetables, and furniture that hasn't been replaced since the early '80, then you might want to consider. We were here for a birthday last year which is the only reason we stayed... In all honesty, the food wasn't bad. It's just not what we normally eat and like
