Extremely efficient way to get from the Hanoi airport to the Old Quarter of Hanoi or the Old Quarter to the Airport. It is very efficient and comfortable. Price is only 35,000 Dong so excellent value for the budget minded traveller. The bus stop is easily accessible from the airport and starts at Ga Hanoi (Central Train Station) and makes a few stops in the Old Quarter before heading to the airport.

We had a very comfortable overnight trip from Ninh Binh to hue. Cabin v clean. We particularly appreciated the help of Hieu from Lotus trains, who went out of his way to help us book the cabin at the last minute. We paid via a link on WhatsApp, which at first we were wary of, but all was legit and journey went smoothly. Great way to travel this long distance!

Vietnam Railways

Reviewed By samanthamorriswrites - Broadbeach, Australia

I do love train travel. It’s more sustainable than flying and really forces you to slow down and take things at a slower pace. We took two trains during our stay in Vietnam - from Ho Chi Minh to Da Nang and then from Da Nang to Hanoi. Both were around the same travel time and both left on time and arrived early. I travelled with my 75yo mother and 6yo son (yes I’m insane) and both coped with the trip easily (mum needed a hand getting on and off the train in Da Nang as there isn’t really a platform. We booked a soft sleeper cabin. For the first left we had another person in there and for the second leg we had it to ourselves. I slept well on both legs. I’m a light sleeper. It’s noisy. You can turn the train announcements off (they’re all in Vietnamese so nothing lost there) and there are window shades go keep outside light out. I slept with earplugs and wasn’t disturbed too much when the train stopped at stations to let people in and off. The toilets aren’t as bad as people make out. If you’ve travelled through Asia, you’ll know what to expect. Take your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer and you’ll be fine. There’s a separate hand basin outside the toilet which is handy for brushing teeth etc. Food comes through fairly regularly - hot and pre-packed. First trip we had a beef stir fry with rice and veg and then a mixed plate with some curry, rice, tofu, veg for dinner. Both were cheap and tasty. The coffee in the morning is strong and hot but there’s no milk (they’d run out by the time they got to us). There is so much to see on the train trip. The trains are reliable and the ticketing system is easy. Compared to other countries, this is an awesome option. I’d do it again for sure.

We booked an entire cabin ( 4 tickets) for the two of us as we wanted the privacy and was worth it. If you expect western luxury you're going to hate this trip... but if you view it as an experience it's great fun. Great trip to see bits of Vietnam you'd never experience from the inner city living of families( felt a bit Girl on the Train voyeristic)to the vast landscape of Vietnam, fields, water buffalo, traditional village life ,to ocean views, temples hills the lot! Tips Take loo paper Handsanitzer Get good at squatting and holding your breath! Have the lunch served, cheap and damn yummy( rice, pork in nori deep fried, chicken skewers, bok choy) Take some nibbles and drinks Have fun!!!
