Liguria, or the Italian Riviera, boasts a bounty of beaches and resort towns, such as tiny but tony Portofino and stylish Rapallo. Hiking trails lead from Portofino to the villages of Cinque Terre. The Riviera of the Setting Sun runs north from Genoa to the French border. Connected by an extensive rail network, most towns make easy daytrips from one another. Genoa is the region's principal city and is home to attractions from its famous Cathedral and the Palazzo Reale to an excellent aquarium.

We had our boat Maggie here for a couple of days and we wish we could have been here longer. This marina is first class by any standard including amazing people in the office as well as Marineros that help you dock. Great non-touristy town as well.

This was the highlight of our Ligurian stay so far. I would strongly advise going on a Sunday if you can. We made the end of the service at the Cathedral around 10.30 then wandered the old town which was incredibly beautiful and peaceful...and absolutely empty of life. Stopped in at the monastery with the nuns reading scriptures...quite surreal...the loggia a great spot..but just wander and enjoy!

We booked a boat trip to Portofino from Genoa. The Italian riviera is a dream place and the trip along the coast is incredible. The first encounter with the beautiful village is provided by the splendid Marina with its luxurious boats, colorful buildings, rich forests and turquoise waters. A place to sit and enjoy the view.
