Not easy to reach but well worth the effort. Continue down the road from Galafura to Covelhinas and on to Regua for a real treat.

Go in the morning for best photographs and to get ahead of most visitors (sun at back). If you can't walk very far or are short of time, don't park in the parking lot by the main road. If the gate is open, drive in and follow the dirt road that everyone is hiking along to the very base of the ridge where the trail goes uphill to the actual "miradouro"/viewpoint. There is room for several cars there. The view is amazing. If you have bad knees, bring trekking poles. It's about 5 minutes uphill to the viewpoint, depending on your uphill capability.

Classified as a nature reserve since 1972, this is the highest mountain (7,800 feet) in Portugal, which is capped by a crater, the Pico Grande, from which a small cone emerges.
My boyfriend and I climbed Mt. Pico in June and it was awesome! We lucked out with a clear, sunny day. We're not super intense, but do a decent amount of hiking and felt completely fine tackling this on our own. I do see how it could be challenging if it was super cloudy, especially since you need to follow markers to get up. We were also a little worried about the mountain filling up after reading some reviews, but definitely had nothing to worry about, we climbed in the beginning of June. We called the mountain House super early in the morning to see how full it was and were told there were four people on the mountain haha. I will say its still nice to get there early to see the sunrise and be in the shade. Also, if you're climbing, might as well go all the way to the top, it was worth it to really get those 360 views!

Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point in Europe and is well worth the trip from wherever you are on the Iberian peninsula. Windy, craggy, magnificent views of of the crashing surf; we could have spent hours here. Sadly, we were on an otherwise fabulous bus tour and only had 40 minutes. Bring lunch and take your time!

Popular spot. Good place for picking up buses, taxis or the great Green Train down to the coastal resort of Camara dos Lobos You will pay through the nose at the cafe - tea, coffee and custard tarts @ €15 would almost buy a meal for two with wine locally

Of the many viewpoints in Lisbon, this is the highest, and the best, wellworth the effort to find. It is just a short walk up from the Graca church (follow the tram lines then turn left and right, up the steep hill). Fantastic views, particularly as the sun is setting, of this beautiful city. Look out for the two boards showing you what you can see from the viewpoint

While visiting the Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar we took advantage of the Serra do Pilar Viewpoint, looking down on the Lower Douro Valley, and the City of Oporto, from the Vila Nova de Gaia side of the River, and parts of Vila Nova de Gaia, also. While we had specifically come for the Monastery, the Serra do Pilar Viewpoint was an added bonus. From our hotel, The Yeatman, the walk to the viewpoint is not the easiest. Though we started on high ground, to begin with, we were headed to even higher ground. For probably the most commanding view of all of the Lower Douro Valley, this is the spot! It is not to be missed, and one can throw in Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar as an added bonus. A “two-fer” if you will.

Heard about the different viewpoints of Lisbon andcthiszwas one we had to see - instead if the steep uphill walk we were brought here by tuk tuk at 50 euros per hour . The driver gave us some commentary about the history of the views where we saw the castle and the seven hills of Lisbon as well as the different districts - the place was pleasant printable great pictures and we stopped for 15 mins here - there are 3 to 4 views you just cannot miss Herr - the town however was a bit unkept and litter on street free views so budget friendly

The Cabo Espichel may be a bit out of the way and definitely requires a car, but it is worth the effort: in addition to the beautiful landscape, especially during the sunset, it offers a combination of attractions: an historical lighthouse, a beautiful Sanctuary and Hermitage, containing footprints of sauropod dinosaurs and a water house with the ruin of an aqueduct to was bringing the water to the premises. It is said that part of the site is under restauration to house a hotel.

Great hike around the mountain and fortress to the top with incredible views. About 8 kilometers! We met a bunch of friendly cats near the top!
