We drove to the parking lot that is up the side of the mountain so the hike to the top was minimized. It’s an easy trail to the top if you are reasonably fit (maybe an hour to hour and half walk up and then back) and the view from the scenic lookout is 360 degrees. It’s well worth the minimal effort required. The paragliders were flying in full force taking off regularly while we were there from the Lookout summit and the weather was sunny and clear. You can see the Arrow Lake below and all the smaller towns in the area. If you have a spare morning or afternoon, highly recommended. It’s make the beer afterwards taste even better!

A scenic lookout that takes visitors from 910 feet to 4,045 feet for spectacular views of the Okanagan Valley and part of Washington state.
If your traveling on Hwy 3 in either direction, up or down the Anarchist, and you see the pullout for the viewpoint, you better pull off and enjoy the view. It's good, no matter what the weather.

Iconic Pier situated along the waterfront in Sidney BC
A lovely spot to walk out and see local people fishing, catch a sunset or just enjoy the view and watch the boats go by.

This is the best viewpoint in Kootenay National Park for getting a wide view of the gorgeous mountains. You do hardly see the river, but there's still lots to entertain the eye. Coming from Banff, it's the last place to stop for a view, as in Sinclair Canyon, the only parking areas are for trailhead use - the road is much too narrow to stop if you see a bear or something. There's separate parking for east and westbound traffic. This highway can be very, very busy, with lots of lead-foots from Alberta dashing to their condos in the Columbia Valley, so be very cautious crossing if you've parked on the westbound side.

I drove up from Osoyoos. 5 minutes on the highway and about 35 on the gravel road up the mountain. The road is in excellent condition for dirt road that goes up a mountain. Any 2wd car can make it although there is some rough washboard along the way that requires you to slow down. I went up with my 6” reflector telescope and got to see several clusters, nebulae, galaxies and planets. Observed: M5, M9, M10, M12, M27, M33, M81, M82, M94, M97, NGC6960, Saturn and Jupiter. Dark skies, pretty warm but a sweater was nice. Saw a fox on the drive up.
