Arequipa (Aymara: Ariqipa; Quechua: Ariqipa) is a region in southwestern Peru. It is bordered by the Ica, Ayacucho, Apurímac and Cusco regions in the north, the Puno Region in the east, the Moquegua Region in the south, and the Pacific Ocean in the west. Its capital, also called Arequipa, is Peru's second-largest city.

Visited as a day tour from Arequipa in Dec 2019. Most people visit from Arequipa as either 1 or 2 day tour. I opted for one day tour as the itinerary looked largely similar, with the 2 day more leisurely and you spend more time in Chivay (where you spend the night) and you can explore or trek if you want. One day tour is more tiring (depart Arequipa at 3am, return at 5pm) but it is an option for those with limited time. Highlight of the tour is the canyon and spotting the condor. We reached the canyon at about 8.30am and had about 50 min to try to see the condor. Lots of people but plenty of spaces to walk away from the crowds and appreciate the amazingly huge and deep canyons. For me, even without spotting the condors, the journey doing the canyons was worth the trip. We didn’t spot any condors until we almost took off. Someone spotted just near our car and we dashed out to see. It was just one condor. It is difficult to take any photo as it flew very high but you could see the large wingspans with white stripes underneath. I was happy enough to have spotted one. As said, even without the condors, it is an amazing place to visit.
