A bargain shopper’s delight is just across the causeway in Malaysia, with numerous bus and train services available to ferry travelers across the border. The largest and most popular malls are easily accessible from the checkpoint and offer a blend of name-brand and knockoff shopping. Dig deeper and you’ll appreciate the city’s differences, good and bad, from Singapore, though rumors of rampant crime are overblown. Museums and places of worship abound, along with good dining for any budget. A new premium outlet mall opened just outside the city in December 2011, and keep an eye on the new Legoland Malaysia, slated to open at the end of 2012.

I joined my family for the weekend. This round I had booked a separate room from my family. I had made a comparison before I clicked "standard single". As I had booked "single single" for my brother. I needed a bigger single room as I had more luggage as I had come to JB a few days ahead. I checked with the counter staff after I checked in. She told me that was standard single. I think she needs to know her room size before she replied to a guest. I paid slightly higher price to a room that was similar to my brother's. I could not even open the bathroom door properly to stand in and come out. 1. Room size was not "honest" as stated in the website 2. Water pressure for standing shower was lower that a bidet spray 3. Missing hangers (1 out of 2) 4. Wall beside the bed was full of dust 5. Air con was noisy and not cold 6. Exhaust fan in the bathroom was super noisy 7. TV remote was not working 8. TV screen was out after a few pressing 9. Sound proof was back when you could heard inconsiderate guests talking loudly at 1.30am 10. Pillowcases and pillows were stained Upon check-out, the staff started conversing with me in Malay. I looked at her. As a service provider, I think using international language will be much more appropriate. And I left my bath towel in my family's room, as I could not bring myself to use the bathroom for the second time in my room. The staff asked impolitely where was the one piece of bath towel. I said it was left in XXX room. She had her colleague on the floor to ask, but she did not acknowledge its whereabout after that. Overall, it was a lousy stay! Given that my family and I have been a regular guests before the lock-down period. Totally disappointed!

Check in was a breeze but accommodation cleanliness need to be improved. We stayed at 3 bedroom penthouse with enough beds for 8 pax. Overall cleanliness can be improved, no tissue provided while only half a toilet roll to share amongst 6 pax.

My sister in law invited us to her daughter's wedding held at this homestay. The bridegroom rent this venue for 3 days 2 nights in order to accommodate all the distant relatives and guests. The grand wedding dinner was also held at this house. I drove from Singapore. We departed from our house at Choa Chu Kang at about 6.45 am and reached our destination at 8.30 am. It was a smooth journey if not for the usual traffic jam at the Causeway. There was a delay as my Touch n Go card had expired and I had to borrow from someone to pay for the RM20 vehicle toll when entering Johor checkpoint. Camelia House is located within a residential landed private estate. Two sentry posts are erected at the two entries into the private estate. There are security guards at the at the sentry posts but there are no checks on incoming vehicles. There are 2 double storey units for Camelia House: no. 44 and no. 50. Both are bungalow units at Jalan Bukit Kempas 2. We stayed at unit no. 50 which I found it rather spacious with 6 rooms. There is no parking within the unit as the dinner tentage was already set up at the parking porch when we arrived. There is, however, ample parking space at an open courtyard just directly opposite the unit. I parked my vehicle at the yard and it was free. All the six rooms in the bungalow are air-conditioned. Free wifi is provided. There is a caretaker who came to take care of the cleanliness of the bungalow. At the main living hall, there is a karaoke set for guests to sing and we were happily searching our old popular songs of the 70s and 80s and engaged in sing along sessions with our relatives to past our times. We slept at the master bedroom (Room 4) at the second floor. There are two double deck bed and the 5 of us slept in this room. It is a bit hot sleeping on the upper deck so the rotating fan has to be switched on to let the cold air circulates. There is a bathroom within this room 4. Room 5 and 6 are also equipped with double decker bed and air-conditioner. I have no qualm on the bedroom. They are clean and well-kept. The bedsheet and pillow appeared to have been changed to clean ones. Bathroom facilities are also adequate. The air conditioning at the living hall is not very strong as only one water cooler unit was blowing cold to keep everyone in comfortably cold. The cooler at the karaoke side seem not functioning well and only a stand fan provides the cooling effect. The weather is hot and air conditioners should be installed at the living hall. The crystal lights at the living hall is controlled by timer and will only switched on at night. There are sofa sets in front of the karaoke set and outside the exterior areas. The venue is spacious for a wedding dinner to be held. There are adequate toilets on both floors of the Homestay. Overall, you cannot compare this homestay to a 4 or 5 star hotel. It has the basic amenities but it is not luxuriously renovated. To accommodate a big groups of relatives and friends, I think it is adequately good. There is no attraction in this part of Skudai but we had our breakfast at Restaurant 288 about a 5 min drive from the Homestay. You also can top up your petrol at a Shell Petrol Kiosk nearby the restaurant 288. I do enjoy my stay here eating the good buffet food provided during the wedding dinner.

Self service guesthouse. We have six rooms to accommodate your needs. All facilities are shared thus if you are travelling and looking for a pit stop, we would be your choice. Most of our guests value our Fully Equipped Kitchen, Fridge with Freezer, Smoking Area and Working Area. Breakfast is self service in the kitchen with free daily bread, jam, tea and coffee. Internet wifi are fairly fast as most of our backpackers guests work online. Our property is very quiet and we don't welcome too many people or big group as we adhere to two pax in standard room and 4 pax in dormitory. Cleaner come daily and change bedsheet, vacuum, wash bathroom. If you are long term guests, your room is cleaned once a week thus you get huge discount for longer stay. We are near to Plaza Angsana Mall which is 10km from city centre. Local do not go to city centre as shopping mall and groceries are located around Guesthouse area :-) Cheap Local Food are abundance. Try it out!
the concept is really guest house, hommie just feel like home. the room for 3 person on the upper floor is big also with big bathroom inside. the location in the residence area, little bit far to downtown but easy to reach and quite. about 10-15 minutes to the border to Singapore. the host very helpful and there are free wifi and free breakfast such as tea, coffee and some bread. there is also common kitchen that the guest can used. i would like to stay here again when i come back to Johor Baru

I booked 29 rooms from 2 - 5 Dec 2019 and members feedback were very bad. Smoking fills the room, pillows smells like cigarette as well. Towel looked very dirty, bedsheets looked yellow and old. Sink is leaking, bathroom curtain looked like years never wash before and most importantly, they said no hairdryer because hairdryers were being stolen by previous customers and DO NOT REPLACE AT ALL! All the ladies have to come lend from another hotel. No house keeping each day!
