Founded in the 1530s, Ecuador's largest city and main port is the top access point for Galapagos cruises and home to a bustling import-export business. Tourism is on the rise as well, thanks to a new international airport and urban renewal projects along the River Guayas promenade and in the historic neighborhood of Las Peñas. The 465-step climb to the top of Santa Ana Hill provides sweeping views and a chance to stand on the site of the city's birthplace.

Habitaciones cómodas y con el confort que mereces
Highly recommend this place! College kids and two professors stayed here on our last night in Ecuador-clean, every room had its own bath, hot water, and air conditioning. Staff was amazing, helped us get to the Malecon and then stayed with us to show us around!

We stayed one night and left our laundry there to come and pick up 2 days later. When we came back to pick the laundry up, she was folding the clothes. We were given a fresh juice while waiting. Very nice people!

My girlfriend and I had a one night stay here while we were in Guayaquil. We were greeted by warm and welcoming staff members who were eager to help us and make sure we were comfortable and satisfied. They were so friendly. We were shown to our room which looked great. It seemed clean and comfortable. The showers were quite warm and we were provided with towels and soap, which was great. The WiFi worked very well and we were able to book our onwards travels very easily. The hostel is centrally located near the Iguana Park and Malecon 2000. It is also very reasonably priced. However... My girlfriend and I woke up the next day covered in bites, presumably from bed bugs. At least the symptoms match exactly this. Unfortunately we were bitten from head to toe and now we’re really struggling to shake these off. I didn’t want to put this place down because the owners are so nice, but I have to be honest in that we wouldn’t stay here again because of this issue.

Hostel with private and shared rooms, kitchen, free wifi, garage, living room, tourist information, terrace
Very friendly staff and easy to arrive from the airport, just a few meters from a Metrovia stop. The location is not dangerous but at the same time not beautiful, very limited availability of food nearby late in the evening. The double bed is nice but privacy is relatively limited as you can hear guests chatting in the common area. I recommend bringing earplugs and a lock for the door.

It is located in one of the residential areas in the north of Guayaquil, at just two minutes from the International Airport Jose Joaquin de Olmedo, or just three minutes from the main bus terminal of Guayaquil. North Star has available for you a variety of rooms, in a simple and comfortable environment. It has WI-FI service, a computer with broadband, private bathrooms, Tv Cable, A/a
We stayed at The North Star hotel for about 5 days, December 2014, and we left because of several problems. First, the place is too far away from town, and costs way too much for what you get. Second, the area is dismal, and lacks anything to do. Third, the WiFi is extremely sketchy and drops connection numerous times (about once every half hour). This means it needs to be reset, but the lady who works there will try and sell you a story about the WiFi being down all over town because she doesn't want to bother resetting the router/modem herself. We just took to powering it off and back on ourselves. Annoying. Fourth, (it gets worse), there were numerous mosquitoes, ants and we saw three different cockroaches in the room! The guy gave me some Raid to kill the first cockroach, but said he was too scared to deal with it himself, so I had to kill the roach and dispose of it myself. Disgusting. Fifth, the hotels rooms are all close together, and because of the comings and goings all night of other guests, it is hard to sleep. And lastly, we had an issue where we had paid the first night, but because we were so tired on arrival, we stupidly never got a receipt. Now this was our fault, but when we told the owner we had paid, and questioned the issue with her, her attitude stank. She is one of the many untrained people that you can find in the service industry who know nothing about customer service, never mind about basic politeness. She was dismissive and uncaring. We left because we found a better hotel in the center, which was cheaper. It was silly of the owner of The North Star to treat us with such a bad attitude, because she would have gotten 7 more days/nights out of us. But she did not seem to care, as they were fully booked, apparently, although they did get very confused over their own reservations when we spoke about it. The pros: the shower was nice and hot and worked OK, although it did get water all over the floor. There are some traveler services nearby you can use, such as a super quick laundry on the corner, and some cheap eateries nearby, but be careful of the dangerous and wide streets surrounding the hotel.. One major issue with this hotel is that they lock the main gate at ALL times. This is the only exit, and the workers have the key upstairs. There is no way out without the key, and so if there is a fire, there could potentially be a disaster here. There are no back door escapes or windows to jump out of, so BEWARE! When I bought this up with the lady who worked there, she just shrugged her shoulders and did not give a damn. You've been warned.

Stayed for 1 night in La Rosa and can't say I'd recommend it. Although it was clean, it was very tatty. Cracked tiles, missing toilet seat, missing toilet role, one small towel, air-con unit that sounded like a howling wind, couch that needed a recovering. The bed was reasonable. The breakfast was basic. No fruit. I suppose you get what you pay for. I paid $43 for 1 night for B&B. The taxi to the airport was $5 and you can get them right outside.
