The hotel is in a rural peaceful location with lovely views and handy for several mountains villages. Wonderful welcome from the owners Clay and Rachel and staff, in particular Amanda ,who is one of the smiliest people we have met. They made us feel instantly at home . Top notch dinner and hugely generous breakfast..will need to diet on return to the UK. Great room with huge bed. Will be back with a doubt.

La Datilera is an easy, cosy and enjoyable bed and breakfast country house, located at the edge of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park (Almería – Andalucía).The house lies in a one Hectare of land belonging to the property in a quiet valley (Boca de los Frailes), far away from noisy urban centres, and free of light pollution. Its location is perfect to start the four main routes covering the whole Natural Park .The routes and distances from the house are the following:1. North beaches: Escullos ( 5 Km .), La Isleta del Moro ( 8 Km .), Rodalquilar ( 12 Km .) and Las Negras ( 16 Km .). Also you can't miss visiting: Cala El Plomo ( 25 Km .), Aguamarga( 35 Km .), Los Muertos beach and Carboneras ( 40 Km .)2. South beaches: San José ( 6 Km .), Genoveses ( 10 Km ), Monsul and many others small coves such as Cala Grande, Cala Chica, Barronal, La Media Luna o Cala Carbón; most of them nudist and quite ( 14 Km .).3. Cabo de Gata town, Las Salinas (birds watching), El Faro, Arrecife de las Sirenas, La Vela Blanca (14 Kms.) and Almería city ( 30 Km ).4. The inland: El Cortijo de El Fraile (Scene of Bodas de Sangre-Federico García Lorca- 8 Km .), Níjar ( 25 Km .), Huebro and Lucainena. The airport is about 15 Kms. We could arrange pick up or drop off.The living room, patio and terrace are roomy and for the use of the guests. There are comfortable sofas, a fireplace, and a bar where visitors could enjoy a cold beer after a day on the beach or why not ask for a mojito and enjoy the view from the terrace or the moonlight while listening to good music.Breakfast and dinners are served at the living room and at the main terrace. You could choose between six rooms. All of them with their own bathroom and terraces.La Datilera is a rural and cultural place for creativity and alternative tourism (out of commercial circles), where guests could enjoy art exhibitions, thematic courses and some other events. You could also share your experiences and knowledge.La Datilera benefits from the inspiration of the artist Xavier Navarro de Torres. Find out his magic both outside and inside the house.
I know it's not really a desert but the area is arid and has a rugged beauty of its own. We stayed for a week that had been booked by friends and were part of a large group staying in the area for birthday celebrations. La Datilera is comfortable and adequate for this sort of break. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are adequate. The hosts are very helpful and welcoming. We certainly enjoyed the relaxed ambience of the place and would stay again.

After snorkeling in the main Cala Higuera bay, I went to find try to find the tiny, secluded beach going back towards San José I'd previously seen on the "internetwork." Unfortunately, on the approach I slipped on the very steep, loose, sharp scree and cut my hand and arm. I approached the bar staff and they patched me up. Thanks! I then had a great lunch, under cover on a very hot afternoon and the view from the terrace was sublime. I also noticed a poster stating they'd recently hosted a reggae evening ~ just sorry I missed that. Of the several bars I visited in San José, Bar Refugio was definitely my favourite. Great, well done! I have no hesitation in recommending it.

I wasn't sure whether click on "book now" when I was reading this place's reviews. But being the adventurous character that I am I did booked. And I am SO GLAD I did!!! I was looking for a quiet and relaxing place to spend a few days, after having spent a couple of weeks in more sophisticated beach resorts. This place is not a beach resort, but it sits at some 15 minute car ride from a plethora of lovely and beautiful beaches though. We followed the instructions to get there, as it is isolated. We were a bit confused as the road turns suspiciously into an unpaved track (perfectly suitable for a regular rental car!), till we saw it. It is a beautiful house, surrounded by gardens and with a pool. The first thing I noticed when the car engine stopped was the silence. There was silence, quiet. Soon the managers came to meet us and helped us with our stuff. There is friendly people and then there is these two... These people couldn't be more helpful, sweet and honest. They offered us something cold to cool down -Almeria in August is melting, and some nibbles before showing us to our rooms. The rooms were very clean and spacious -we took two, but found that the house can be rented fully outside August, so defo booking it for a trip in the spring with some more friends! Come night time and the view of the stars and the moon could itself justify the trip here. But the whole place has some sort of magic. We took some fresh figs from the trees, the kids helped cooking dinner -Letty is a prestigious trained chef, and even saw some chameleons in the garden. We were part of the family! We got very good advise on what to visit, where to go and what to avoid from the management. We visited fantastic beaches and enjoyed really nice restaurants, coming back to Gallineta in the evening, to enjoy the sunset in the pool before getting ready for dinner. ABSOLUTELY recommended, but keep in mind that this is not the typical beach resort.

At the top of the main street in San Jose, the hotel is close to shops and cafes and a couple of hundred yards from the beach. We arrived on foot from San Miguel de Cabo de Gata (24 kms; 5 hrs) and were rewarded with a cold beer (just €1.50) on walking through the door. Rooms clean and spacious; friendly and helpful staff. No meals served but cafe over the road did good breakfasts with good coffee. We came at the end of season in the first half of November but there were still 4-5 restaurants open in town.
