Top 10 Lodges in Cornwall, United Kingdom

April 24, 2023 Misti Hsu

Cornwall is the extreme southwestern peninsula of England. It has the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain and it is one of the sunniest areas in the UK. With picturesque villages, Celtic ruins, light blue waters, gardens and parks and unique architecture it certainly is among the most scenic areas of England. Home of many events and festivals and the land of Cornish pasty, it is definitely worth visiting.

Visited with friends, cheap enough and in a good location, parking advertised but you can't actually park on site. The bathroom door didn't shut or lock it was too twisted, the windows knackered and seized open, and the locks dodgy on the front door really hard to lock. Random missing plaster etc inside the place and all abit run down. Staff were good though

Do not pay attention to the negative reviews. I genuinely think they have reviewed the wrong restaurant. The food here is some of the best food my partner and myself have ever eaten from a pub. Recommend the curry and the steak pie. We were so well looked after and they couldn’t do enough for us. They were so quick to get our drinks / advise on the menu. Will deffo be back again. 5 stars. And a fantastic view of the harbour.

We really enjoyed our short break. Debs and Max are professional whilst friendly hosts. Our room was fresh, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing! We hope to come back and visit again soon. Fowey is lovely with plenty of shops, places to eat and drink - we booked tables in advance and were very pleased we had!

Boonkeys Surf Lodge

A weekend in paradise

Reviewed By alexpM2965XY

Well well well. Where to start, Boonkeys is arguably the most sought after and desirable accommodation Newquay has to offer. Set across 3 floors and tucked away on a quiet residential street, upon arrival you are immediately impressed by the grandeur of the place. On the first day we were greeted by our charming host, Gary, who was out in the front yard constructing hobbit houses from pieces of timber - we instantly knew this was our kind of place. Despite a slight misunderstanding to begin with (we were told the 6-man room we had booked was in fact 6 single beds in different rooms) we were then shown to our luxurious and well-equipped living area. The room was in first class condition as Gary had recently repainted it due to a previous guest rolling cannabis cigarettes in there which was a really nice touch. The room comprised 3 bunk beds and a bin, whilst having the added benefit of a luxurious en-suite. Unfortunately the shower door was broken and resulted in a near death experience each time it was used, however, this did not put us off in the slightest. Similarly, there was little to no running water from the sink so towards the end of our stay there were large deposits of what could only be described as ‘dook’ festering in the basin. After our first night we were awoke to the sound of the friendly general manager enjoying a morning cigarette which blew in through our ground floor window and set us up nicely for the day. You could really tell the beds were of the highest quality materials as we awoke feeing fully refreshed and raring to go. My dear friend George was unfortunately suffering from flatulence issues in the morning which gave the room a rather pungent aroma, albeit most of the scent was contained within his anti-chafe boxer shorts. We greeted Gary on our way out into town and asked for recommendations for a hearty breakfast. He recommended Andy’s Cafe which was a favourite of a fellow jolly traveller on the top floor who’s name escapes me now. Well, Gary was not wrong. Andy’s Cafe provided the finest cuisine in the town, with local delicacies such as sausage, bacon and eggs all on offer in a picturesque setting. Unfortunately we didn’t see much more of Gary after this, though we could hear him most mornings which was reassuring to know he was close by if we needed anything. Over the following days we tended to not spend much time in the room due to the fantastic amenities elsewhere in the town, such as Cave, the sea front benches and the chippy. That being said, whenever we returned it felt like we were home. So much so in fact, my good friend Sandy decided to spend the fully day inside on the last day enjoying the comfort and facilities the room had to offer whilst the others had a great time at Fisty beach. The only minor complaint I have to make is that the check out time of 10am is rather early, this resulted in a near death experience for my friends Daniel and Thomas when we attempted to leave the premises, as I had unfortunately consumed too much rattler the night before and was driving rather erratically. Nevertheless, I am sure we will back soon enough - Daniel was so impressed he wanted to come back in 2 weeks time! We discussed this at Cornwall services, where we reflected on a weekend of laughter, coughing and memories over an Italian BMT and a hot choccy. This was also sufficient time for me to sober up before the arduous task of driving 2 insulant children home for 8 hours! My closing thoughts are, if you are looking for a little slice of paradise within Newquay, then look no further than Boonkeys - I assure you this place offers everything you would need and more, at a competitive price and with extremely friendly service. All the best, The Newquayin 6.

Reef Island Lodge & Apartments

Reef Island Lodge is brand new, super relaxing, comfy and stylish. It is absolutely perfect for a surf getaway, or even just a break by the sea. It is located only a 2 minute walk to Towan beach with various bars & restaurants, shops and supermarkets close by. Towan Beach is directly near the studio, just a quick walk along the Island Creasant Street, down the steps and your feet are in the sand. This beautiful beach is very popular with both families and surfers, as it is located in the centre of Newquay, and it can be lively during the peak summer months. The Blue Reef Aquarium, right by the beach, is well worth a visit. At low tide you can walk all the way across the beach to the traditional Cornish harbour, where you can find an excellent crab sandwich or ice cream. Second time with the family, stayed in Nuthatch and Robin

We first stayed here in lockdown for two weeks, we had such an amazing time, we stayed again this year. We love to surf so this is a great lodge which is near to Summerleaze beach (Bude about 7 mins away) and Widemouth (10 minutes away). We often visit Disraeli from here too. It’s not far from Padstow, Tintagel and one of our favourite places Bocastle as it’s beautiful. Some of our fav places to eat were the deck, olive tree, The Bank, Potters, Sea fever all very good some expensive. In the summer it’s good to book way in advance as they get booked up really quick. The lodges are well equipped, with quirky items, and everything you need for a stay. Russel and Jools are super friendly and helpful, nothing seems to be any trouble. They give you a super cute welcome pack on arrival and provide a lot of cleaning stuff, bin bags, which I wouldn’t expect to find so much appreciated. We also love that the hens pop to see us sometimes and the beloved cat sparkles whom spent a whole two weeks with us the first time but sadly only one day this time (too tip bring dreamies apparently) Will 100% return next year

Lack of customer care

Reviewed By Deborah M

We fell foul of the cancellation policy. Unfortunately we had to cancel the day of the booking due to circumstances outside our control. However, we asked if we could move the booking to a few days later. We received a curt email back saying that we could not cancel within 2 days of the reservation and that was that. This is of course technically and legally accurate, but on a human level, in low season in March, showed a lack of customer care and consideration. We weren't asking to cancel, but to move the date by a few days and in fact to stay an extra night. Would it have hurt them to allow us to move the booking?
