Top 10 Literary, Art & Music Tours in Ljubljana, Upper Carniola Region

December 27, 2021 Yuk Petri

Slovenia, wedged between Austria and Italy, has always been proud of its unique heritage. The capital, Ljubljana, is a perfect example of this blend of German, Mediterranean, and Slovenian culture. The old town is a blend of Baroque, Renaissance, and Art Nouveau buildings, watched over by a medieval castle. Cut through the gardens of Tivoli Park to the National Museum of Contemporary History for a history of modern Slovenia, featuring crumbled statues of Stalin and a recreation of a WWI trench.

Loved it! Velenje Underground is quite an unusual experience. Having a fancy dinner 160 m below surface, combined with some artistic performance / music is really something »out of the box«. The idea behind this project was to elevate tourism in Velenje to a higher level, namely to create a memorable, 5 star experience for turists. This goes hand in hand with the vision of the tourist destination Slovenia… Slovenia as a green boutique global destination for high-end visitors seeking diverse and active experiences, peace, and personal benefits. A destination of five-star experiences.

Visitors have special opportunity to buy good paintings (mainly artists from Slovenia) for low prices in small galleries in Ljubljana. People in the mentioned places are helpful. They speak English and some other languages. Nearly all the mentioned small galleries are near the Čevljarski most on the left bank of the Ljubljanica. They are better idea than souvenir shops. SloArt is little far but interesting, too.

Went on my second Photo Walk with Marco in Ljubljana — previous one was in Venice. This time my wife accompanied me and used her Smartphone to take photos. Marco had offered to lend her a Fuji camera but she declined. Great experience again. Marco took us to Metelkova which was eye opening. There were a number of people loitering around but we felt very safe in Marco’s care. He took us up to the Roof Top bar in the Nibotičnik Sky Scraper and got some great shots of the landscape plus interesting ones of the spiral staircase — doubt if I would have noticed it if we simply took the lift up and were on our own. He also recommended some local restaurants — we tried 4 during our 5 nights in Ljubljana! All good! Marco was good company and was very helpful in taking us to places which were very photogenic. May have to incorporate a trip to Hungary — Marco is a great photographer and good company. He will ensure you take a number of photographs you will be proud of.

8. I LOV IT - Tivoli Park Tour

Museum of Modern Art, Cankarjeva cesta 15, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia Slovenia in colours

Can you imagine visiting New York and not walking through Central Park? Well, it is like this in Ljubljana. You have not truly seen Ljubljana without a nice, pleasant walk through park Tivoli. We will do that! On our stroll below the mighty chestnuts trees in Tivoli park we will talk about the interesting things about Slovenia, Ljubljana, and Tivoli. We will see 2 mentions, a pond, a rose garden, many sculptures, hidden art and more. We might talk about a lynx couple that escaped the ZOO and a bear that lived at Rožnik for a while. But on our walk I promise there won't be any bears! Possibly a squirrel or two.
