Once a shipbuilding city, Newcastle's flashier claim to fame is nightlife. Throw in a heap of premium restaurants serving foods from all over the world and it's no wonder young partiers choose to blow their hard-earned (or not-so-hard-earned) cash in Newcastle. While these amenities are certainly a draw for the hipsters and culture-seekers, it's the locals that make Newcastle a truly special place to visit. "Geordies," as they are often called, embody the pride, industriousness and resilient spirit of their city.

A birthday gift from my lovely daughter, this was my first go at pottery. I went with a friend and what a special treat. It was such a wonderful experience: a fantastic two hour escape from the stresses and strains of everyday life, especially during the pandemic. The group was small (four) and we wore masks and were well distanced. Andra made us feel safe and welcome. She showed us around the studio (really interesting to see the kilns and workshop shelves covered in beautiful creations). She was so warm and supportive: a very gentle, humble, caring, nurturing person. She put us immediately at ease and encouraged us all the way through without being overbearing. I was amazed and excited to be at the potters wheel at my first go at pottery. I found the whole experience very emotional: focussing on making the pottery and using my hands to create something was therapeutic and mentally freeing. My friend and I both made five things in the class - so much more than we expected. Andra gently shared tips and tricks to help us get the best results on the day. We made whatever we wanted to with her help and advice. When we got our creations a couple of weeks later it was so exciting to see them: Andra had glazed them and they looked amazing. Lovely colours. She made everything look beautiful. If you're looking for a new, creative experience with a wonderfully supportive tutor I highly recommend Andra and her classes!
