As a group, we rated this little gem as best food of the whole trip!!! Served family style, flavors were outstanding and varied on each dish that we experienced. We ate mid afternoon and were the only people there at the time. This is a family restaurant and we met mom (the cook), dad (who built the place himself) and their kids who were the waitstaff. Rueben (the son) spoke excellent English and shared the story of how they were serving their grandmothers recipes (thus the Carmelina name). The place is a little out of the way but we all loved it!!! A real gem.

My husband and I are vegetarians and really struggled with menus in Cuba. This was an exception. We had a great meal. The chick pea dish was spiced well. We really enjoyed our meal here.

This may have been the best meal we had in Cuba and, as residents of Tampa, we are very familiar with Cuban food. The lunches were very good, but we totally spoiled our appetites on the huge platter of newly cooked plantain chips we were served. Heaven! The service was very good and the restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere.

The orient is truely a picture of beauty. None more spectacular then this edifice that defies belief. The interior is totally lavish with inlaid woodwork, intricate carvings and stained glass windows that are framed by exotic wooden carvings. Its gobsmacking beautiful. Its lucky that these days the images captured by an army of visitors are relatively silent, compared with the days when shutterbug clicks would reverberate around the property. We came to ogle and to lunch, priorities which must be satisfied. Whole fish was my request sent three days ahead of our visit. It arrived in royal triumph. A silver platter bore the princely pesce oozing a wonderful fresh ocean essence. My daughter went for lobster with mustard and fresh mayo. Unsurpassed triumph. Sated by our bonanza we traipsed up the ornate staircase past columns of marble and intricate decorations to the perch, from which we were afforded another breathtaking vista. An unbroken sweep of Cienfuegos and beyond. The balcony overlooks the briny, in an unfettered sparkle of blue with the sky above offering counterpoint with wispy clouds. Not a place to miss. I could spend a number of weeks here. In fact i will. This time with a boat to ferry me around beautiful Cuba.

After strolling down the prado and malecon, this family style restaurant is ideally situated to settle for dinner. Delightfully cold beer comes in an iced glass. Simple yet tasteful place looking upon the malecon. Prices not particularly elevated. Frequented by many locals as well- a good sign. I had ordered fried tapioca followed by swordfish and shrimp, tasty and well presented. Coconut dessert served on a slice of cheese(!). Unusual combination rounding off a satisfying dinner. When I left the place was full, likewise next evening when we passed. Recommended.

Taking as a reference the pride that we feel the cienfuegueros to own the emblematic and distinctive Paseo del Prado, we opened the doors of our modest restaurant in the No. 4626 of that street the 4 of February of 2011. The uniformity and rectilinear lin
Recommended by Ivan, our host in the casa where we are staying. We had already eaten but popped in for a quick drink on the way home, which turned into a few drinks! The rooftop terrace is a great place to spend an evening, there is however a more formal dining set up on the downstairs floors. The cocktails were excellent and really well priced. The service was friendly and professional. We saw some of the food when it was served to a neighbouring table and it looked excellent. If we were staying in Cienfuegos another night we would definitely dine here.

This was the sixth restaurant I visited in Cuba, three in Havana and three in Cienfuegos. It is by far the best of the six. The food was simple but very good. The house wine, a Spanish Sauvignon Blanc was also very good and the service was excellent.

Nice restaurant situated in a beautiful colonial building with a lovely balcony. The high ceilings give the restaurant a spacious feeling. Food is cheap, but very tasty. I adored my fish, prepared according to Doña Nora's recipe. I also tried a bit of the ropa vieja: also excellent. Of course the restaurant provides some live music for your entertainment. I do have to say, I was kind of glad to hear a guy play something else than Buena Vista Social Club. Service is friendly and very charming. We liked it a lot that the waitress poured our glasses of rum with flair at our table.Value for money!

The restaurant and the atmosphere is very welcoming with a nice view. Our server Yanuel (Castillo) was amazing. He was very attentive, professional making our time spent there, delightful. The food was very well grilled and quite tasty. We liked the creativity in the courses that we chose. Lynda and Eduardo from Miami
