A Great Little Hostel in the Heat of Asakusa

Reviewed By T4046TKjohnj

This was a very good choice for a short stay in Tokyo. The hostel is very clean and well maintained. The staff speaks excellent English and all of them have travelled widely so they know how to make travelers feel comfortable. The common room and kitchen are fully equipped and there is free coffee and tea all day. You could easily prepare meals here but the nearby department store sells food so cheaply that it almost does not make sense to cook unless you are a larger group. The hostel is very quiet and there is not much of a social vibe. Quiet hours start at 21:00 and it definitely is quiet. Rules around removing your shoes and absolutely no visitors are strictly enforced. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm room (luckily I had it all to myself). There is an en-suite toilet, sink area and shower. There are small lockers for personal items and larger luggage can be stored at the desk. The neighborhood is really good. Close to the Senso-ji temple and with multiple small restaurants and department stores nearby. The Asahi Beer office is around the corner and a really nice little park runs along both sides of the Sumita River. Overall a great stay.

Very good!

Reviewed By B3703DKlaurah

I was here for 3 nights and it was very good! The facilities are very good and the staff is very welcoming and helpful. All in all a very good stay! The only negative thing I can say is that there isn’t that much space in the kitchen/dining area so if there are other families etc. it can be very crowded.

I love this place! I would stay again.

Reviewed By Lewdbei

So hotels and hostels were pretty expensive at the time we visited, so we chose one of the highest rated yet cheapest place available in Asakusa. The staff are great and accommodating. They care a lot about their visitors and always ensure that they have a great stay. This place can be hard to find if you don't have a good map. I spent an hour or so trying to find this place. Other than that, K's house was one of my most favourite hostels to stay in Japan. Even compared to more expensive ones. Also, they give free ice tea, which was nice during the hot summer.

Clean & value for money hostel

Reviewed By kandilistk

This dormitory style accommodation is very clean and cheap place to stay while in Tokyo. Though it’s a 2 double decker bed that can sleep 4 people in the room, making it cramp in the room, it is still better then some of the hostel accommodations in the area. The accommodation also provides breakfast with an option of Western and Japanese style breakfast, which helps save the trouble of going out to look for breakfast. The staff at the hostel is also very friendly and helpful during the past few days that I was there with my family.

I visited solo in March and needed directions so I popped in and ended up staying over an hour having drinks and chatting with the excellent staff, Yuya and Haruka. When he found out I was from Tennessee, he broke out into some Elvis♥️ The sake was on point and I had a wonderful time. Will be staying here when I visit again in December.

Lovely traditional Japanese inn, great location

Reviewed By Charlotte R

This was our first time in Japan so first time in traditional accommodation. It was very nice - an old converted building turned into a kind of Japanese B&B - and in a brilliant location, really close to the temples and shopping bit in Asakusa. On check in we were met by a man we assumed to be the owner - he was polite and friendly. None of the staff we met there seemed to speak much English at all, but they were all very nice and friendly towards us (and their English was much better than my Japanese anyway...) The rooms were quite small, but having stayed in other Japanese hotels now I'd say this is just typical for Japan - there was enough room for 2 large suitcases, 2 rucksacks and still plenty of room for the table and cushions. The bedding was traditional Japanese style that you made yourself, with futons, toppers and plenty of bedding in the cupboard. The futons were surprisingly comfy considering what we are used to at home! The bathrooms were shared, with one toilet downstairs and one upstairs, but as there were only 4 guest rooms this wasn't a problem. There was one shower and it was downstairs so we either had to go upstairs to our room in towels, or get changed in the bathroom, but this wasn't a problem for us as the hotel was always quiet. Rooms are not soundproof as the building is very old, but other guests weren't noisy so this was fine. There was building works next door 8am-5pm each day, which the owner warned us about and apologised for when we checked in, but we were up early and out most of the day each day we were there so this wasn't a problem either! Overall a lovely little hotel in a small location, I would definitely go back.

Hostel Haru is so centrally located. Seconds away from the Tsukuba Express Asakusa station. Also very near the main Asakusa attractions. This property occupies the third floor of a building so it has this intimate feel. Clean property overall. Fast internet. Comfortable bed. And the super friendly host seals the deal! Thank you!

Great location, but dirty room

Reviewed By Tacoctopus

The location of this hostel/hotel is fantastic. We stayed in a deluxe 4-people room on the 4th floor. The room floor had lots of hair, and there was dust on every furniture, including the bottom of the air conditioner, which was above our beds. One of the towels had dirt on it as well. Unfortunately, we didn't feel too comfortable because of the cleanliness issue.
