For a quick lunch out from the university, our hosts brought us to this rather inauspicious restaurant at a local shopping mall - but looks can be deceiving! Great food, good prices and a menu in English!

I'm a big fan of soba and tried many places already in Okinawa and this is so far my favorite unless I find another place. Place is packed everyday with no parking and at minimum 30 minute wait. Filled with locals at all times. Must try.

Two of us, were out with cameras, looking for National Treasures, to photograph, when we discovered this Soba House. We parked across the street. One of the employees, wearing a Maruyasu T-shirt, greeted us and, I told him we were hungry but, wanted to take some photos before eating. He came out and gave us a tour of the entire neighborhood !Once inside the restaurant, we ordered bowls of soba and, I asked if it would be alright to take photos. I had the Sanmainiku and, my friend got a bowl of Soki Soba. The order takes a few minutes but, is delicious and piping hot when it arrives. There are condiments available at each table, for those who like to spice things up, while waiting for the soup to cool. It's a good idea to wait for a minute or two or, you will burn your tongue.The staff, allowed me to photograph anything, I wanted and scurried around, cleaning tables, as customers, finished their meals. This is one place, I will be visiting again and, again.

Food isn't the best in the island but it's good enough and the atmosphere of the place is simple but agreeable. In summer maybe eating in the outside would be pretty hot but this also is a good "Okinawa" experience. My choice in Umichika is the "Sooki Soba", a hot soba soup with meat. Delicius!
