Things to do in Naganohara-machi
We went to this restaurant based on the recommendation of our hotel staff. After entering, the chef welcomed us very friendly and explained the different Teppanyaki dishes. So although there was no english menu, communication with a few Japanese key words (okonomiyaki, soba, ...) was no problem and the food was delicious. If you sit at the counter, you can directly watch the food being prepared, otherwise it will be served to your table which has a hot plate (teppan) in the middle. Okonomiyaki is really delicious and the amount is quite big for a reasonable price. As we were the only guests, we chatted with the family running the business and I could practise my Japanese a little bit. We can definitely recommend this restaurant for a good dinner, it opens from 6pm (status as of Oct 2015).

The people here are wonderful. Very kind and friendly, with a very at-home atmosphere. The buckwheat noodles are hand-made, and if you are lucky, the owner/chef will demonstrate how soba is made. The family business has been around since the Edo-period, specifically for about 250 years. The business is 8 generations old and still going strong. But this doesn't mean they are just old-fashioned. If you go to their website, you can find a coupon to use at the restaurant.
