The number of Japanese reviews for this place next to the station seemed promising (although I couldnât understand them), so I dropped in. Unfortunately, itâs standing room only and I was really looking forward to sitting down. Anyway, I picked the most expensive karage (menu in Japanese with some pictures, although staff speak a bit of English) and, after at least 10 minutes (stools would really help), out came beautifully tender chicken covered in a strangely tasty soft (not crunchy) batter. Some of the best fried chicken Iâve had. The extra in my price were some things that seemed like tendons and fat in a crispy batter - maybe just stick to the basic karage, which is the one for 480 yen.

We decided to try this restaurant based on online reviews and we're very happy with the choice. It's located on the right side of the Matsumoto Station in a small alley. It's a popular hangout for locals who enjoyed drinking beer and other sake drinks along with the yakitoris. No one spoke English but we just ordered the set menu to keep it simple. All female guests received a free salad and everyone gets unlimited cabbage salad. We started off with raw chicken served with seaweed and wasabi. They were delicious and tasted like sushi. We then had a variety of chicken yakitoris including liver, wings, gizzards sausage and breast meats as well as asparagus, eggplant and quail eggs. Final and 11th course was the soup rice with choice of seaweed or plum in case you are still hungry. We were totally stuffed and barely tasted the rice. It was a fantastic and value meal in an authentic local watering spot. Although staff didn't speak English, they were still super friendly. Iced oolong tea was good as well.

Had a traditional Japanese meal here for lunch in late October. The staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. We ordered a curried chicken dish and a recommended vegetarian lunch special. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. Good place if you are visiting the nearby castle.

Found this cute restaurant in the laneway between streets as we looked to try the local soba noodles. This place certainly didn't disappoint - decor was beautiful, service great, and food spot on! The meal sets seem to be the way to go, with tasty soba noodles & a good amount of tempura. Also tried the soba with duck which was also very nice. Average price was between ¥900-¥1500. Would definitely come back again.

A tiny fish of 10 cm for 1000 yen is quite expensive. However, taken into consideration that it comes from the river which flows beside your seat, barbequed (you can see the charcoal stove) after you've made your order and served so crispy that you can enjoy the whole fish including head and bones, I think it's still a good deal. This traditional building also offer boarding. If you cross Kappa bridge after the toilet and hike your way to Myojin region, you will take a tea break at Kamon Jigoya before crossing the Myojin bridge.

Long established family-run restaurant specializing in local cuisine, especially soba (buckwheat) noodles and tempura. A good selection of local Nagano sake is also on the menu. Come join us for some delicious local delicacies in a relaxed atmosphere... c
Went to this restaurant with some friends and ordered a variety of dishes. Each dish was meticulously prepared and of high quality. The duck and basashi (horse meat) were both absolutely delicious. We finished everything! Our server was also very attentive and explained how the food was prepared to us.Would recommend trying their desserts as well. The ice cream was creamy and not too sweet. A perfect way to end the meal.
