Things to do in Matsubara
My wife and I decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary here about one week ago. While this restaurant is part of a chain, the experience we had was one of a kind. The waitstaff were very friendly, attentive, and patient (my Japanese is still incredibly weak), and they provided menus in English. The selection of dishes was immense, and I got plenty of chances to try a plethora of delectable cuts from the menu. Aside from the meats, they also offer a variety of salads, rice dishes, desserts, and a nomihodai alcohol menu. I found it somewhat peculiar that the soft drinks were only available as single purchases, but chasing booze with water was perfectly acceptable. We began the evening by asking our server's recommendation. She advised us to enjoy a sliced skirt steak and thin rib slices. We progressed from there, dining on sirloin steak, korean-style ribs, chicken thigh cutlets, sliced beef liver, and more before returning for a few more orders of the skirt and sirloin steaks. My wife enjoyed several glasses of various mixed drinks, while I stuck with yuzu and lime sours. Somehow, I managed to fit a delectable tiramisu in after all of that. We dined at will for two hours, which is what they advertise. Overall, I cannot think of one aspect of the meal we did not like, and the atmosphere was pleasant, if busy. It is a rather popular restaurant in Matsubara, and I can see why. Every member of the staff made sure we were happy and comfortable in the restaurant, and we left feeling as though we were honored guests. While somewhat spendy, I am fully confident that between the service and the meal itself, we got more than we paid for. I am looking forward to inviting my family and friends to join us for future great experiences.

RE-OPEN NOW 1 NOVEMBER START 12:00~15:30 17:00~20:00 EXCEPT WEDNESDAY We have English and Chinese menu.
We arrived here just before opening time at 5 pm and within 10 minutes every seat was full with a queue of people waiting outside. We ordered two okonomiyaki - one with beef and shrimps and the other with oysters. They were divine! We‘ll be back in two weeks time on our trip through Japan.

The area is littered with friendly homeless people - Japanese culture means that they are not the nasty types you might get in the west. The restaurant is intimate & our chef / owner is a pleasure to have a chat with. He grew up in the area & while university educated he has a strong association with the locals. Good food - probably not in Michelin class but very tasty. Enjoy the chat, have a beer or any of the spirits available & get a real understanding of the area. It's good to get an understanding of life away from fancy hotels & restaurants.Thank you very much!!!I will keep on doing what I always wanted to do!!Look forward to seeing you again!!!
