Was a little hesitant to enter. The area looked more for locals and I thought it might be a problem with english. Entered and they were really nice. Pointed to pictures of BBQ ell and a Sapporo beer. The ell was really good. Prices were good too.

If you like sushi or sashimi you would certainly enjoy the food in this place. They serve the local specialty but you have to prepare it yourself, bonito barbecued on an open fire. They help you to do it. The place is very basic, almost minimalistic, but the quality of the fish was fantastic. And the people are very friendly too. The place is not nice, next to the highway, near the port, but I would certainly return just for this experience.

You can combine yourself according to your preference such as oden, handful sushi and so on. There are plenty of seats for sitting, but lunch is crowded. I recommend you try eating lots.

After a night eating at Hirome Ichica, we wanted to have a proper sitdown dinner to try ther other Kochi delicacies. Tsukasa Kochihonten is mentioned in various travel blogs as a good place to go, so we had our hotel help us make a reservation. We went on a Monday night; there was some business but not full perhaps due to it being a weekday and us having dinner relatively late, but other customers were locals, which is always a good sign. They have an English menu, but I suggest to also look at the Japanese menu which has a lot more photos. Dishes we enjoyed include the fish cake, grilled mackerel sushi, and especially the deep fried awa dori chicken, which the staff had kindly help us split the large piece of dark meat chicken for ease of sharing. We found the sashimi to be just alright, wasnât strikingly fresh or special. The staff were very friendly and helpful, though did not speak much English.

You can find some Katsuo TATAKI restaurant in Hitome market but Kochi citizen know this restaurant is best.My friends come from overseas also love this restaurant very much.Because, basically Katsuo fish of there is fresh one(No frozen).(If owner can get only frozen one, he will let us know.)Best way of enjoying Katsuo TATAKI is order in this shop first, then watch Katsuo baking process of other restaurant when you are waiting:-)

We were shown to seats where we were asked to remove our shoes and seated at a comfortable table separated from those alongside by a netting curtain. Our waitress was Aya, incredibly charming and helpful, and the huge bonus was that her English was excellent. We started with the seared Bonito tuna (the local speciality) and it was very good, so much so that we ordered more, in other forms, as guided by Aya. The salads and squid was also very good. We were bothered by smokers alongside and Aya was kind enough to move us to another table. All in all my best Japanese dining experience thus far, and great value also.

We had to wait 1/2 hour to get a table. Absolutely worth the wait, and you can distract yourself be watching the spectacular burning of the bonito fillets. We had three starters to share, sea-weed tempura (nothing special), tomatoes (nothing special) and pieces of fried moray eel, which was actually ok.The thing to eat here, though, is the tataki. It is beyond delicious! Highly recommendable!!
