So glad we stopped by Kawamoto Store before making our way around the island. Got to pick up our okazuya favorites to enjoy on the road. Everything we had was absolutely ono! Shrimp tempura, string bean tempura, sweet potato tempura, fried chicken, maki sushi and spam musubi! There were so many choices that we didn't get these but they were just as tempting: fried noodles, cone sushi, nori wrapped fried chicken. They also had cookies available.

We were surprised at the quality and variety of food considering the very reasonable prices. The assortment of Bento Box choices is fantastic. Considering that this is a small establishment and busy, the staff was very good at arranging a table for six people by moving things around. Definitely a recommendation for Japanese food.

Our son loved the sushi here - I had the delicious poke bowl. The only downside was that there is nothing on the menu for the non raw fish eater - like chicken teriyaki or noodles or dumplings - so our other kids ordered cooked shrimp sashimi. One of the only places open on Sunday.

It was a pleasant experience dining at Aomatsu Restaurant. The "rosu"(loin) cut tonkatsu came straight from the fryer to the table. The panko coating was fried crispy and the pork was very tender and juicy, not oily. The sauce matched the tonkatsu very well. The shredded cabbage was sliced very thin, just like in Japan, and the sauces were very good. The meal came with a bowl of savory miso soup that contained fishcake, eggplant, and sliced round onions along with a nimono (simmered) rice noodles and vegetables. The staff was very attentive and service was good. I will definitely return here again.
Got carry out sushi, Avocado Ebi, Ebi, Hamachi, which were really good... I ordered two of the Avocado Ebi and wish I had ordered three orders which would have been six pieces, it was so good. They did make a mistake with my other order which was Seafood Salad and I got Ocean Sushi instead... I do not want to take away a star for that as the sushi was really good, and the staff were mega friendly and helpful.

Upon our Saturday afternoon arrival in Hilo, many restaurants were closed and we four mainland seniors were famished. Happily, we found Tetsumen Tonkotsu Ramen! We had several delicious, filling, authentic dishes among us and have been talking about the friendly staff and delicious food ever since. What a happy accidental discovery for us. Enjoy!

Restaurant Kenichi Provides Ramen, Salads, Local Favorites, Sides, Catering and Private Party Services to the Hilo, HI area.
Iâve been going to Kenichiâs for awhile now. The staff are upbeat and really friendly, the food is tasty and the quality consistent. The place is always busy which is a testament to itâs reputation. Our staff eat here quite regularly and one guy regularly asserts that Kenichiâs serves his all time favourite Korean chicken. Nothing fancy but the food is good and the vibe is always cheerful and good value. If you looking for a fast friendly place to grab a quick lunch with friends try Kenichiâs. See you there

I've eaten here many times with my wife and have even been to special in-home events catered by Takenoko and his wife. I love them and their food. It's authentic and after visiting Japan I can't really say it's different. Sure in Japan I can get a sushi box for $20 bucks that's close to being as good as the $55 chef special, but this sure beats most sushi prices in the states. Too bad reservations are now a year in waiting or so :-) The chef works so hard he deserves this recognition. My favorite thing there isn't the sushi but the baked avocado. Oishi!

My family and I made reservations as we heard it can get busy. They chose an 8PM reservation time even though the restaurant "closes" at 8:30. They were very slow seating us despite having multiple tables open they chose to wait for someone else to leave and then clean their table. Our waiter rushed us along the whole night. The entrees are also a little overpriced. Vegetable tempura should not be over $12. Overall, this is a pretty decent place especially in Hilo.

We feature a frequently changing international menu with a pacific emphasis and focus on locally sourced ingredients.
Husband and I had been dying to eat here. Last year, Hurricane Lane kept us away. Our server, Emily and her team set the bar for our entire anniversary vacation. We ordered every seafood item on the menu and each was more ono than the one before. The ahi was fresh and silky and amazing. We finished with lilikoi pie and the absolute best espresso ever brewed. We usually donât repeat restaurants, no matter how fantastic, but weâre going to make an exception for this one.
