I found this place whle walking around town. It is in a traditional house like place. Very nice. You have to remove your shoes to use the restrooms. We had the Beef Udon and Iwakuni Sushi set. it was very good. My granddaughter had the childrens set. Also very good. All fresh and home made. We also had lotus root salad, very good. They speak some English so that was good also.

I've come to this sushi restaurant twice now and it has been excellent both times. I've ordered chef's choice sashimi plate and sushi plate and both have always been generous and delicious. Seared tuna, seared salmon on the sashimi plate, along with hamachi, tako, and what I believe was sea bream (I may be wrong, but it was at least very similar in texture and flavor) have been home runs. There are bars on both sides and group seating in the middle. I always prefer sitting at the bars to get more of a one on one with the chefs and see what they are plating. Since I barely speak any Japanese it affords an opportunity to see what's getting plated and request anything that looks particularly good! The chefs are super friendly and accommodating for non-Japanese speakers. The older chef, I assume the owner, knows a bit of English and can help you out with what should and shouldn't have soy sauce. The wait staff are also super friendly. Lots of locals eat here! There is smoking, like many Japanese restaurants, but they must have good ventilation because it didn't bother me. I highly recommend checking this place out!

Food and service are always fantastic!! Within walking distance to the base so it's very convenient. Prices are also very reasonable. I have been coming here for years and I have never been disappointed!

This is one of my family's favorite restaurants in Iwakuni. Make sure you go early (11:00am for lunch, and around 4:30pm for dinner), as it fills up very quickly, with wait times occasionally exceeding an hour. The food is always incredibly fresh, and there is a HUGE selection - everything from traditional sashimi dishes, to bowls of udon and tempura, to tasty desserts and coffees. Sushi is available on the lower "slow" conveyor belt, and typically costs 100 yen per plate; special orders are placed on a touchscreen at your table and arrive on the upper fast-moving belt. These range in price from about 250 to 600 yen each. The restaurant is always clean, but usually quite loud. The waitstaff is welcoming and accommodating; they speak very little English, but they do have an English menu and will assist you in ordering off the touchscreen if you ask. Best of all, my husband and I can eat until we're (somewhat uncomfortably) full and still pay less than $20 for dinner.

An exceptional dining experience. Having traveled from Canada to sample the Puffer Fish delicacy, we wanted to experience an authentic Japanese Fugu meal. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who made every effort to understand what we were looking for despite our language barrier. We were served a 10-course dinner with Fugu as the star ingredient prepared in different ways (ie: sashimi, sushi, deep fried, grilled, hot-pot, congee, soup, and a few others). The quality of the food was excellent.

What a spectacular view! A clear unblocked view of kintai bridge. This is a great pit stop for those who's visiting Iwakuni. There are set menus which highlights the local lotus root produce & Iwakuni sushi, which is a feast fit for a king.

This is my favorite okonomiyaki place in Iwakuni! Highly recommend reservations or getting there early. I've had to wait over 30min to get a seat. They also do take out.

"The Chicken Shack" is a well known spot in Iwakuni. If you are new to Iwakuni, everyone says it's the place to go. It is a large sprawling restaurant on the side of a mountain. There is inside dining.....more open-air dining that is covered....and out-side dining near a stream....among the trees. The setting is quite pleasant. There is a lot of glitch and lights...trinket stands...creating an interesting experience if you are there after dark. The chicken is a half of chicken on a stick....cooked over an open fire. It is quite good. You can add miso soup, rice or other accompaniments. My friends and I found a table outside, near the stream. We were surprised to find that, when we put our legs under the table, there was heat. We enjoyed the heat as it was a cold day.....and it took two hours for the food to be delivered. There were pots of hot tea we could partake of while waiting....still, I would opt for a seat inside.....and a less crowded day. The staff was pleasant and accommodating.
