This is by far the best soba restaurant I've been to in Japan. Every time I visit Tokyo I make sure to save some time for a trip to Chofu to enjoy this place in these great surroundings. From what I heard, this is the oldest restaurant in the neighbourhood that serves home-made soba noodles. Most of the choices in menu can be served either hot or cold. (I personally prefer hot soup on colder, autum days)It might get busy on weekends and so the waiting time is longer, but the food quality never stops to amaze me and is totally worth it. If you have a chance, make sure to try the place on weekdays when it's less busy. Also, if you've never tried soba before, this is the place to do it! It's worth trying the freshly made tempura, which is a little bit more expensive, but you're sure to get one of the best tempura's in Japan.

Beautifully prepared Soba noodles with a cold dipping sauce and delicious shrimp and vegetable tempura. Topped off with green tea and beautiful surroundings. Loved my visit to Jindai Botanical Park and Jindai-Ji. A great place to eat after burning your energy walking around the park and temple.

Usually, buckwheat noodle - soba- is 80% buckwheat flour. This place has 100%, 90% and 80% buckwheat soba, though 90% soba run out quickly. If you want to taste the difference of each, go for the most basic soba(noodle with tsukejiru only)

Most of the reviews for this place are for the beef croquette downstairs of this restaurant. Upstairs is the sit-down Matsuzaka beef wonderland. Given the price difference between the two floors, it makes sense that most people stick to the croquettes. However, given the time and budget, I would recommend getting some of the best Matsuzaka beef you can find. It brings a bit of a tear to the eye recollecting the flavor.
What to do and see in Chofu, Japan: The Best Places and Tips
Smallish restaurant, with counter and some table areas, light and airy atmosphere, friendly service. Courses change monthly using fresh seasonal produce for Japanese and other specialities. The head chef prepares and presents from behind the counter, including blowtorch work, with heavier dishes prepared just out of sight. Our menu was: Barracuda sushi; then sashimi, real wasabi, myouga; chilled vegetable selection; roast duck; crab and greens cocktail with tade, molukhia and cucumber; large green piman-style pepper stuffed with white fish, and shredded carrot tempura; udon; dessert.Directions from Sengawa station: turn right, past Keio dept store, left at Rupo bakery, right at Matsuya, walk 100 metres.
