Great atmosphere in this bustling crowded yakitori restaurant. Their specialty is chicken skin.In the middle of the restaurant there is a large grill with several chefs who do all the cooking right in front of you. Mostly is yakitori style and you get really a natural charcoal taste. Many groups, so it can be loud sometimes. Still, you have to go there.

Akita is known for this dish during autumn/winter. I must say that this is certainly not the best that i have tried in Akita. Quite a disappointment in fact. The chicken was a little hard - not sure if it's because it is supposed to be free-range chicken that they use and that's why the meat is a little tougher. Tried the same dish at a ryokan and it tasted much better - the broth was thicker and richer in taste at the ryokan. Not the best i would say.

No English menu. So I sort of rely on trying to figure out the jap menu, and ask for recommendation.Quite nice, for the environment, the friendly staffs and food.Asked for recommendation for sake and surprise surprise, one cup of intentionally overflowed drink to give the bright red coloring (refer to photo). Very smooth sake.Overall ok.

We asked the hotel staff what the famous food in Akita is. He suggested chicken. We asked him to recommend one that most Japanese go (not for tourists). He recommend Shukitei Hinaiya Akita. When we were there, we only saw Japanese. All the staff don't speak English but it was still okay for us coz we could see pictures in the menu.Overall the food is good.

Located in the shopping complex (street level) behind the Museum of Art, this restaurant offers one of the best meal in Akita. I understand this is a very well known udon maker in Japan. Briefly, as you exit the Museum of Art, turn right heading towards the corner of the shopping complex. If lost, show the Japanese website/ name to one of the retailers in the shopping complex & they'll point you in the right direction. There's a Japanese website with all their offerings but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it on TA. So ......There's a picture menu available and lunch specials that are well priced.I had the tempura udon lunch set and it was extremely delicious. There's also sukiyaki, dumplings set, tipsy business set and lots of other choices. The restaurant has a warm ambiance, the service was excellent and deserves to be mentioned. My only regret is due to my short stay in Akita, I was only able to eat there once.Lunch 11:00-14:00Dinner17:00-22:00

On the way back to hotel after the Kanto Festival, I walked past this restaurant that recommended by the tourist information center and decided to give it a try.Very beautiful internal decoration.Impressive menu with good price.Tried the Sashimi plate and raw Oystel. It was excellent. Should have gone there earlier to avoid large crowed.

My friends and I were brought to Mugendo by our Japanese hosts so I have no idea how much a meal costs but, whatever it was, the food was worth it!We were made to try dish after dish after dish of sushis, sashimis, prunes with edible gold, plum wine, hot sake, cold sake, pickled fish, soups, shabu-shabu tongue and beef and all sorts of exotic dishes. This being my first time to try plum wine, I must say I loved it. The food was excellent. There are tables downstairs and function rooms upstairs. All are equally comfortable. The function rooms were beautiful, with artsy windows and light fixtures. The service was fast and not lacking in anything.Another round of plum wine please!

Had a dinner here as a part of my overnight stay in Akita. Convenient location in JR East Japan Akita train station building's 3rd floor.Kiritanpo nabe was hearty with the standard ingredients. Good flavored soup, vegetables, mochi and chicken. Also had junsai, and plum wine. Fulfilling meal. Will come back again for more dinner next time.

I used to look forward to coming to Akita to eat these noodles. What happened? I ordered the tempura udon hot. The tempura was okay except the fish (which was fishy). The udon was good but the soup was smoky and not as good as it used to be. It was really disappointing.
