Schwäbisch Gmünd (German pronunciation: [ˈʃvɛːbɪʃ ˈɡmʏnt], until 1934: Gmünd) is a town in the eastern part of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. With a population of around 60,000, the town is the second largest in the Ostalb district and the whole East Württemberg region after Aalen. This is a lovely restaurant smack dab in the middle of the main square of Ohringen. There are 2 sections to it, one to the left as you walk in, looking a bit fancier, and the other on the right, apparently more casual-bigger tables, no tablecloths. But, we were seated on the right, which was the "right" choice for us, as it had no children. This was the evening of the fest of the Ganz Festival in this duck-crazy part of Germany. Many restaurants were closed, as not only was there a fest during the day, but it was also a Sunday. So, we considered ourselves lucky to find the Piazza Mediterrane. Then, we ordered - and discovered just how lucky we were! Rucola Pizza, arrogula salad as well, and a bottle of good red Italian wine (though I don't remember the name). My husband, evil man, ordered a pizza with truffle oil. Well, THAT blew the lid off of sharing. We're still married, but it was a bit dicey. That pizza was just so very, very good. Mine was lecker, as the Germans say, but his was fork-fighting good. The staff were all so very nice, albeit rushed at times. But, they made the effort to speak English, while we answered back in our pitiful German. A lovely evening, in a sweet town. Good food and nice people: what more do you need?

Mario's Spaghettihouse is more than what we expected. It's just down the street and doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside it is something else. First, it's very clean and nice...cloth table coverings and napkins...not what you'd expect from a little place on a busy street. Next is the food: Hot, fresh and homemade. The pizza is delicious, the pasta is definitely fresh, and the house red wine, Montepulciano, is amazing. We've been back several times and never fail to get great service, super food and all at a reasonable price. Two thumbs up!

I was here with the family on a Saturday lunchtime, wanting to try something new. And this was good. No, I mean like *really* good. The chef actually talks to you and explains what is on offer - even doing what my son actually WANTED to eat, rather than having to choose from a menu. My wild boar "Ã la Medici" was aromatic and delicious and there was even Sicilian fruit afterwards. An excellent lunch, staying 'under the radar'. I'll be back and will recommend this to friends, no question.

I hosted a business dinner here and everyone had a great time. The service was efficient and friendly. Meal portions were very large and everyone's food was excellent. The Beer selection, as one would expect, was varied and no one complained.

The old Santa Lucia moved from down town Backnang to a new location built by the Backnang protect club. By changing location all the staff and the good tradition of serving Italian food in real Italian style has moved with the restaurant. Try the lunch offer - as the restaurant is near a new industrial area you will find fresh and tasty meals at reasonable prices. During weekends and for lunch it is advisable to make reservations.

Stopped for lunch after a long walk along the Limes. Cold beer under the trees in the hot sun couldn't be bettered. Good service and very popular but the delight were our pizzas very tasty and of such as size my wife had to get a doggy bag for hers

As a long-time resident of Backnang, I had noticed Pane e Vino come but had neverbeen inside. There are plenty of Italian places around and, from outside, this new one didn't look amazing. Then my wife went and came back with the highest praise...I've now been three times and, well, appearanaces can be deceptive! The concept is that there is no menu and the meals are based on whatever's available that day. You'll be told what's in offer. No dumping of menus here. And that's half the fun...having to listen and choose. The food is a dream. Always fresh (it has to be!), very high quality and utterly delicious. The wines are great too. Service is excellent. Rather than some snooty waiter being condescending, you have the boss in normal clothes and he's extremely friendly. Indeed, on my most recent visit, he even stuck around for 10 minutes to talk!Though unusual to be told what there is rather than read it, it's fun. Don't be in any hurry to get away - you wouldn't do that at a friend's house and that's the idea - fresh cooking takes a little time to do (nothing precooked here). This is the best Italian restaurant I've been to in Southern Germany and you'd be daft to miss it!
