Things to do in Scanno

Stunning location amid the mountains. Family atmosphere. Every choice is oriented towards biological and homegrown food. The only things they don't make themselves is the olive oil (due to the altitude) and the wine. We ate a starters' platter of homemade cheeses and cold cuts that was AWESOME even compared to the incredibly high standards of the region. Sheep Prosciutto.... no words. The cheeses were in grades of strength and hardness/seasoning, so they also advised us on the proper sequence to better enjoy them. It was literally a journey through taste... As a first we had a good homemade fettuccini with sheep sauce, and a "Raviolone" i.e. a big Pasta roll filled with ricotta cheese and bathed in red sauce. Very good. As a second they brought us Lamb on the grill, faboulous, and "Lamb Porchettato", which was even better. We closed with wholewheat Crostata with cream and jam, which the kids devoured. All in all, great, good priced, nice service, and we picked amazing cheeses at the store they have inside the restaurant. Amazing.

We visit Scanno very often, because here born father of my boyfriend. I can say that this place is not only beautiful because of architecture and nature, pure water from the mountains and clean air, also local food and products are quality and tasty! In this restaurant we go regularly. Pizza here more than delicious, starters with local fresh cold cuts and cheese, of course all kinds of pasta, meat and WINE. Special mention for broccoletti, which flowers full of antioxidants. All home made bread included. What else. Service is very professional and you can be sure that in this atmosphere you will enjoy the real taste of Abruzzo.

Previous attempts to go to Alla Fonte have been in vain as sadly the opening times on the door seemed to bear little resemblance to the actual opening times, but we decided to try one more time and luckily this time they were open - and very glad we were too. The wine list outside offered far more than the usual, and we had a delicious Gerwurtztraminer from the Alto Adige. The accompanying aperitivo was also well above the average - fantastic bread (I found out that it was home made) accompanied by a cold cut and two types of (obviously local) cheese with honey. Everything was excellent. All they need to do is improve their time keeping and they'll get 5 stars next time.

The restaurant opened specially for us as an out of season group visiting on a public holiday early in November. Service was welcoming and efficient, and the food was just what we had been hoping for as a group of Australians intensely interested in good food. Generous antipasti would just about have been enough for me, but they were followed by the best pasta with mushrooms I have ever eaten and a delicious pannacotta with wild berry sauce. Wine was served in jugs and ok. Food was memorable and the village itself a stunning place to visit, high in the Appenines.

Beautiful Restaurante Located Within Walking Distance From The Main Square. It Offers Regionals Dishes Prepared With Fresh Ingredients And Locally Sourced. Warm Atmosphere And Great Service. Ideal For Families, Group Dinners And Special Events.bellissimo
La Valle was within easy walking distance of our Scanno hotel, so we stopped by for dinner. We found it to be warm with good food and friendly staff. Although we were only in Scanno for one night and didn't get to eat anywhere else (so no comparisons in Scanno), this restaurant was a solid choice for dinner.

On the recommendation of our innkeeper, we tried La Baita for dinner one night. The pizza was terrific and the house wine was delicious. Service was so-so, but it got busy shortly after we arrived And we had wine, so we were ok with that.

We found this restaurant from a different link on tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g194910-d1876639-Reviews-Lo_scoiattolo-Scanno_Province_of_L_Aquila_Abruzzo.html, and thought to give it a try.It was a great experience, with wonderful food and very hospitable hosts. The grilled lamb was one of the best we had in Abruzzo! The primi plates were plentiful and very tasty. We will certainly go back there again if we are back to Scanno.

One of my favourite restaurants in Scanno has to be "La Porta". In terms of quality-price, it is Top Notch! I had the best "Agnello sulla Grillia", Lamb on the Grill,Zucchini Risotto,Scamorza allo Speck, Quadrucci con lenticchie, Local mountain mushrooms, even their potatoes are home grown from their own "Orto". I highly recomment this family run restaurant, great food, friendly service and very fairly priced! Buon Appetito!

We just stopped in for a glass of wine before dinner and had a great experience at La Fonte. Although our hostess didn't speak much English she was very patient and helped us choose some very nice wine. We were surprised when the wine came with a plate of prosciutto, bread and some amazing local cheese with honey...all for â¬6 a glass. The restaurant itself, as the name suggests, is right next to an old fountain in a quaint square in medieval Scanno. You can sit and watch the water or watch the people go by while enjoying your wine. All in all a great experience and an opportunity to have the 'sit on the square in Italy' experience that rampant tourism has all but killed in many places. Although we were only there for an hour it was one of the highlights of our trip.
