Nothing can beet this site, right at the lakefront. Tucked away from the busy street. The Pizza is yummy and we loved their mixed fried fish - both from the lake and from the sea. The staff ist friendly and takes the order in Italian, English or German. The kids menu was our daughters favorite.Thank you for your gentle review. See you

Il Cavatappi

We were excited to eat here after reading all the fabulous reviews. However, our meal was disappointing. I ordered the lamb stew which was bland and tasteless. My daughter had the fish which was also under seasoned. I will say the artichoke soup was delicious and they were nice enough to split an order for us. The place seemed a bit too pretentious for our taste. The service, while efficient, felt a bit unfriendly. I was hoping for more small trattoria vs fine dining stuffiness and would not return.

La Grangia

Reviewed By FamilyOf2PlusOne

We were visitng lake Como for 2 weeks holidays. Always interested to explore local cuisine and try to search for family run restaurants/cafe. La Grangia deffinetely matched profile of the restaurants we go for. It was quite easy to find since it's located on the main road. You initially enter shop where you can buy cheese & cold meats. Which is fantastic because it gives you opportunity to purchase edible souvenir to bring home. Restaurant was empty we were the only visitors. Room was clean and nicely decorated. The only disadvatage was that there is no windows to enjoy beautifull view. We were offered set menu of cheese/meets plata as a starter, followed by gnocchini (small gbocchi) for 1st course, meet for second course and desert. Price was good and food sounded simple and nice. Starter was fine local meet and chese. Pasta was a dissappointment. We were offered cheese option or meat. I was suprised that meat gravy that was used was canned meat. It's very possible that it was canned locally or even by the owner but it ws not fresh. Owner did not speak very good English so I could not check. Meat for second course was ok, but it was served on the hot plate so you kind of cook it yourself (but it's common for the area). In general the owner is very nice and you can see him trying hard, but he just does not know how to do it well. He looked a bit scared in general that we showed up. I think he has the right idea of what he wanted to deliver but he does not know how. He probably very good as a farmer, but not as a restaurateur. Would recommend for him to put a bigger sign that he has shop with local farmed cheese & meat and bigger sign for reastaurant. Put some tables outside, so that visitors can enjoy amazing view, choose simple dishes but from fresh local ingridients, and learn couple good pasta dishes. I put 3 stars for the efforts.

We were very excited about eating at this restaurant especially after reading all the reviews. However we really do not think it was worth the trip into the hills. Tables are set out on a very uninspiring courtyard it felt like you were eating in someone’s garden. Service was excellent but the food was average and disappointing. We ordered the cheeseballs anchor gnocchi to start. The cheeseballs were on a bed of salad that was inedible but the cheese balls were good. The good gnocchi was okay but nothing special. Full names we ordered the beef kebab because so many people had said it was good and we also ordered the chicken Milanese. The chicken was dry and so very average. I have had better so many times before it was served with chips. The beef kebab was nothing to write home about in fact we were so disappointed. Deserts were good but not special. I have had better tiramisu in England. We had to get a taxi from the town I’m very surprised anyone manage to walk up there as it was quite a journey maybe there was a quicker route but we could not see it. It was an expensive meal for what it was and I certainly wouldn’t rush to go back. I just feel I shouldn’t have read the reviews because perhaps I was expecting something special and this restaurant is not special.

Once again my large group got to experience a truly superb dinner at Il Caminetto.Providing round trip transfer from out hotel in Varenna and then offering up anabundance of food, wine, and conversation. Moreno and Rossella are the consumatehosts! It was a very memorable evening for everyone. If you are visiting Lake Como youshould definitely come here for dinner and also the cooking class. The icing on the cake is that Il Caminetto is a great value.

Da Luigi

We loved Da Luigi. The service was super friendly, the ambiance very relaxing and homey and the food excellent. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. Service from the excellent English-speaking staff was prompt, efficient and friendly. We saw smiles and shared a few laughs. Always a good sign. My wife had the salmon and she was very pleased. Two of us had the cotolleta Milanese and it was delightfully tender and tasty. The fourth in our group had a vegan pasta. With wine and desserts we paid E85. I uncondintionally recommend this place. We preferred it to the other restaurant in town mainly based on the friendlier atmosphere.

Excellent pizzas, good wines, beers, fabulous views. The fact that this place is full of locals, combined with a very busy take away service is proof enough of the quality of the food. Recommended to us by our hotel, we have to agree that this is one of the best pizzerias we have visited to date. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the size and quality offered. There are numerous fish specials every day and the fish coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled wonderful.Hopefully we will return one day to Lake Como and this will be on our list to visit again.

The view speaks for itself, this is the beautiful part of Lake Como after all! The food is exquisite, interesting dishes home-cooked from fresh ingredients - simple yet full of flavour. A refreshing change from the "standard" Italian menu, and free from all the dressy touches that seem to prevail these days. Service is unobtrusive but efficient; dishes are brought to the table as soon as they are cooked, rather than being kept hanging around on the pass waiting until the whole table can be served together. Some may not like this. The family and staff may appear a bit reserved at first - regulars know better, they are delightful - but you may have to give a smile to get one.And to the reviewer who calls this a bad restaurant because they wouldn't allow his dog in, I can assure you that dogs are allowed in (a fault in my book as I hate to see dogs in restaurants) so there must have been some reason.........I'd suggest a return visit without the dog as you are missing a treat.
