Founded by the Romans in 179 AD as Casta Regina (meaning Fortress by the River Regen), Regensburg is one of Germany's oldest towns. It was relatively spared from Allied bombings during World War II. Today, many flock to see the wonderfully intact old city and its many medieval structures. The 12th-century Stone Bridge was used by Crusaders en route to the Holy Land. The Regensburg Cathedral (or Dom St. Peter) is one of southern Germany's finest examples of Gothic architecture.

The modern and stylish ambience has provided the ideal setting for your culinary moments since 2011. The Esszimmer restaurant offers regional cuisine with international accents.
You most probably wouldn't expect this quality of a restaurant in this location.. It's at the ground floor of a Mercure Hotel in a rather industrial area near the highway - but it's a very good restaurant, perfect service, good seasonal and tasty food, good wine choice. Obviously, it's used mostly by hotel guests, but we went here on purpose not staying in the hotel and it definitely was worth the experience!

We all have a dream to discover a real restaurant, a mixture of ambiance that is neither fake nor contrived, food that captures the essence of its source, staff that are friendly and personable and not like trained dogs, a chef that either owns the restaurant or its his/her responsibility for consistency and art and a menu that invigorates you and shows fresh ideas or classics with something extra. So it was with a welcome surprise that while in Regensburg recently I was recommended by TA to try Federico Secondo - a wonderful name that is itself a true bridge between Germany and Italy and more importantly the Italy of Puglia and Sicily. Like Frederick II, this restaurant appreciates the arts and the art of cooking. With a small kitchen that expands into the dining room proper where the assistant makes the fresh pasta, the chef is right there, working in front of you. Its his restaurant. Only after we ate, did I appreciate that all of the pastas (and I suspect the bread) is made freshly as I then proceeded to watch a wonderful display of the dough being kneaded and then pressed through a wire mesh to make No. 2 spaghetti. I had fish fillets cooked in lemon, basil and with capers, my daughters had various pastas including sage flavoured ravioli, The single waitress looked after all of the guests some of which were regulars and who chatted with her. I read the German reviews and they were all favourable but for non-German speakers I wanted to also support their positive impressions and clearly recommend a detour to Regensburg and this small trattoria with its faded photos of Puglia, the chef and his awards and of course Federico Secondo overseeing it all.

Decided to try based on some reviews though it was not close to my hotel. Located on a side street in a neighborhood, it is an unassuming local place. An outside seating section streetside with a dining room inside. Clean and well kept. The main waitress (maybe the chef's wife?) was a bit gruff (in a typical German way...though she is Italian :-) ) and wasn't too thrilled to be helping an English speaker as she did not speak English, so she called for the chef, who did speak English. I tried to explain to her that Italian food is the same in English, but I wasn't quick enough. The chef came out and between my little bit of Italian and my little bit of German and English, I ordered a meal. I got so confused, I think I used both German and Italian to order my wine and water. Once she understood that I had a grasp of restaurant Italian, the waitress was much more animated, lol. She gave me an espresso on the house.Had the bruschetta and side salad to start and Tortellini al Forno. WIth a glass of Montepulciano, it cost about 21Euro. Food was tasty. I'd have no problem going back. Pizzas looked good. There is on street parking in the neighborhood, but it might be a bit sparse...I got lucky with a spot directly in front of the restaurant.

My husband and I went there during the fall of 2018 for our anniversary and we decided to go here for lunch. I just love the fact that it is a family-run business, and that the service there is amazing and they make you feel so welcomed. But, the food was by far the highlight of the whole experience you can 100% tell that the cook is passionate and that they use very fresh produce. Plus they are cooperative to tourists which is always a big plus for any tourist looking for some good eats.

Really nice place to eat and to have fun... the meals are delicious and the services are really good... The only thing you must bring to the restaurant is your own knife... (this is the reason I rated low) I ordered a Pizza (delicious) and the knives were not cutting... I changed 6 times ! And when I finished eating it was cold... My colleagues had the same problem. I think the restaurant owners should think about renewing dishes... the other things were perfect.

Easily missed due to its location in an alleyway, Kaminski's is a welcoming, cosy little cafe/bar that opens from breakfast time to around midnight. There are several tables outside which are nearly always full and some of the tables inside the bar look out into the alley. Great for people watching, with locals and tourists all passing by. Though it is an alleyway, typical of Regensburg its filled with several bars and restaurants. Tends to get more lively the later in the day. They specialise in Asian and Italian cuisine. My favourite is the Saigon wok, a variation of vietnamese curry, while my partner raved about the ratatouille. Their cake selection is small but nonetheless delicious, especially combined with a latte macchiato.Staff are friendly and hospitable, and most are good English speakers. Its the kind of place that once you visit, you will want to return!

Stopped here while visiting on Scenic° River Cruise in the town of Regensburg. Spouse and I were doing a walking "self tour", and found ourselves hungry. Saw this quaint pizzaria and went in. It was drizzly outside, and I noticed that many tables in the center were "reserved". The hostess however, immediately took us to a windowed table next to the lovely street. The restaurant inside is rather large, with a full bar area and open kitchen showing their bricked oven, similar to ones I saw in Italy. My wife and I looked over the large menu, but we knew we wanted "Pizza"!. We ordered a mushroom and proschutto, regular size. It came out overfilling the plate.Thin, crispy, perfectly cooked, and delicious. Service was great, to start, but during the delivery, we saw a large group of college aged looking kids roll in, I knew what the reserved signs were for. 50-60, and the place was slammed. None the less, the bar tenders came to help, and we dined without problem. Be sure to ask about the local brews! Germans and Bavarians are very proud of their beers, and should be! This place was greatGrazie mille for your great feedback <3!

Thanks to other Trip Advisor reviews we tried this just around the corner from our hotel. Salads clearly made from fresh from the garden ingredients. Pasta freshly made. Seasoning of my wife's grilled shrimp just right combination of herbs; amazing ragout sauce and tender lamb chunks on my pasta.

I spent a wonderful evening at Rinaldi with two of my most esteemed business partners. We were thrilled by the great service both Chris and Lorenzo provided to us. The wine card is mediocre at best and for an Italian place very disappointing. Should you be in Regensburg and want an amazing dinner with top wine, please check Luna Rosa, you will be getting better food and wine, while service at Rinaldi is top notch.

Wolfabarsch vom Grill mit frischem Gemüse.Hähnchenbrustfilet mit Parmaschinken in WeisweinsoÃe, dazu Bandnudeln und Beilagensalat. Location: walking distance from Regensburg train station and the university. It's not located within the city center. But it's well worth the visit while you're here in Regensburg.Timeliness: We arrived @2115 and our food was delivered at 2145. Well worth the wait given the food that we ordered. The chicken and the fish. The staff were very friendly and helpful in the ordering. The food!: The fish was absolutely delicious. The meat just slide right off the bone. It was very well seasoned. I wish I had more to eat afterwards. The glasses were really small (0.4l German standard) so I was out of my beverage before my meal was finished. I have no complaints about my main dish. There was nothing extraordinary about the ice cream. It was yummy too. My boyfriend's chicken dish included self-made pasta. However, the meal was very salty. We weren't sure if it was supposed to be like that or the kitchen made a mistake. We spoke with the waiter and he explained that the meal shouldn't have been salty. So we are not sure what happened but the waiter offered us an espresso. Price: The price for the food is well worth it. I believe the food is reasonable priced.Overall I highly recommend this restaurant. Even though the chicken was salty this time. All of my previous and enjoyable visits to this restaurant makes up for this mistake. Therefore, I give this restaurant 5 stars!
