The experience at La Casina Rosa is unique. What deserves 5 stars is the ambience, the romantic atmosphere of the place, all decorated with originality, care and art by the owner, with exclusive attention to the details. The restaurant is located in a quiet area, with hills around, and surrounded by a pretty, green lawn, with weeping willow trees. It is strongly recommended that you call in advance to make a reservation, especially for lunch. When we arrived, we were first welcomed by the owner, Madam Marino, a fine lady who made us feel as her guests right away. We started with âantipastiâ, which were a series of three different plates, one after the other one, each one with different types of food prepared with a wide range of herbs and even marmalade and honey. Being an âagriturismoâ, much of what was served was grown and produced in the same place, including some of the meat, herbs and spices, and a variety of bread. In fact, herbs are what gives a special aroma to each dish and what characterizes their cooking. Pay attention to the decorative âpowderâ around the edge of the plates as it is more than a decoration. It is actually herb dusting in which you can âdipâ the food. We had other servings after the âappetizersâ. We spent about E.30-35 per person, including wine and dessert. It feels like experimenting a different world, although being unaccustomed to such diverse taste at times left me uncertain about what I was actually eating... What is magical, though, is the very romantic ambience, the way the place is arranged and its surroundings. After the meal, we talked with the owner and then enjoyed the calm, peaceful atmosphere of the garden, on the benches under the trees, with a pleasant breeze in a very hot summer day. It is worth a trip (donât forget to ask for directions when you call to make a reservation, as it is otherwise difficult to find it). A tip: donât go there just for food but to enjoy some relaxing time in a special place. You can even stay there, as they have accommodation facilities.

Sure, we're Americans and we love our beer and pizza. But when we were traveling in Italy we certainly didn't expect to find this combination. The pizza is perfectly crisp and flavorful. There is a nice variety of beer on tap, something you don't always find in Italy, and the atmosphere is always lively. We were staying two weeks and ended up eat at Ex Officina three times!Grazie MaryAlice l'aspetto per farle assaggiare i nostri succulenti arrosticini fatti a mano. A presto Luigi

Fontâartana is located in the heart of the small town of Picciano in the center of Abruzzi. The town itself has relatively elevated architecture in its typical houses compared to many proximal small towns in the region. You enter Fontâartana though an large wooden gate door that leads you down a stone staircase of this two hundred hear old home. The âLâ shaped dining room is striking and had a brick groin vaulted ceiling. The room was beautifully appointed with historic cooking paraphernalia some over century ago. I arrived early so I had time to wander through the restaurant which leads out to charming terraces that peak through gates into the town itself on one side and look out to the beautiful countryside on the other side. The air was filled with the aroma of a large antique copper cauldron of boiling homade wine sittting just outside the kitchen doors. The owner and cook showed me the line of where the wine started which was about 10 gallons and then said he would boil down to get about and inch on the bottom when all is said and done 14 hours later. It is Moscatto which is a delicious sweet wine syrup served in their assorted cheese plate. It tasted delicousWhen I arrived back at my table there was bread served was dense fresh. I ordered the vegetable antipasto which comprised of 8 large rustic plates. A platter eggplant with cheese, a bowl of barley and greens and another bowl of egg with peppers. Paula my waitress then returned again with a simple fritter like bread, small fried croquets in a cheese sauce, a corn like croustade (my fave) and a bowl of sage leaves fried in a batter. All were delicious and way too much for me to eat. I thought, that it was my almost nonexistent Italian (which is mostly comprised of hand gestures) was part of an error and that I ordered the entire vegeatable antipasto menu until I noticed that other customers received the same items that I did. For the pasta couse I had a plate of homemade pasta with fried pancetta. It was rich and very good.Paula and the rest of the staff as was extremely helpful in helping me order and decipher Italian words. I sat just outside the kitchen and heard a lot of laughter from this friendly kitchen which only added to its charm. At one point I heard Italian then ânot at allâ then Italian banter then âyour welcomeâ. Paula my waitress who spoke just enough english came out to ask "which way do you answer thank you, with your welcome or with not at all??". Then beck into the kitchen and more laughter. Thier fun did not detract from the food.By this point I was extremely full and could not order the main course but saw a spectacular platter of brazed chicken that went to a table in a room of local regulars that I will be sure to get next time I go. For desert I had the Pannecotta (which is a very light custard) served with wild cherries. So delicious. Pannecotta is an good choice during fruit bearing months as it is usually served with fresh fruit. When I finished, my meal I was surprised that the meal that included a bottle of a local Rose wine was only 37 Euros. I wrapped up some of my food for uncle Pasquale back home took a couple of pix of the kitchen where the owner, his mother and wife all cook spectacular dishes which is constantly changing. I thanked Paula who responded ânot at allâ as I left. I felt like I got a glimpse of the true history and culture of abruzzi and was embraced by the people.

A genuine agriturismo with the friendliness and comfort of a family business. There is a set menu - a series of hot and cold antipasti, followed by gnocchi and pasta, then local meat for the main course â which you will struggle to fit into your over-stretched stomach. Outside is a small play area for children. Part of a working farm, the restaurant is only occasionally open for lunch.

The biggest surprise on my holidays in abruzzo was this small treasure. The quality , creation and fantasy the chef bruno gifted us is out of imagination. Lovers of sea food and nouveau cuisine should come by . Ill certainly will. Juan cabrera

Abruzzo is a famous region for its delicious culinary traditions...Having tried several local restaurant I think this place is too much fancy and lost part of the traditional atmosphere of osteria and trattorias here in Abbruzzo...It is not a place for locals but more for tourists. The premise is quite new with bright colors and a rustic feeling.. they bring you a huge quantity of appetizers hot and cold. Usually only with starters you're already fine...cause it is a huge quantity, but ifr you want have a main course they offer several options of veals and steaks..Price..around 40 per person included wine.A little but pricey and too fancy for what they offer...

This is a simple village pizzeria that will not cost you much but serves excellent pizza and great arrosticini. If you have not tried these local specialities then this is a great place to start - sort of like lamb kebabs and you might order 5 to 10 each! Get the house wine and a pizza and a bunch of arrosticini and you will have a reasonable bill and lovely food. The restaurant is in a quiet village called Conaprato (ten minutes from Penne) with a bar down the road that is not always open! On a weekend in season the place will be packed with locals - mid week and out of season it will be quiet.I doubt any English is spoken but Stefano is helpful and hard to go wrong when ordering pizza! You can also do take away (but no delivery) if you are staying in one of the lovely places nearby.

Was looking for a restaurant to eat in Penne on a quiet Tuesday night and after walking around we came back to Tatobbe....We had the anti-pasta shared for two and it was simply great....lots of small plates with a mixture of hot and cold...be careful not to eat too much of the wonderful bread otherwise you will not manage your main course and maybe even your starter! We had a veal main which was well cooked and very tasty and a calzone which was just to much food....well almost! Nice restaurant that I would go back to without hesitation. Service polite and attentive without being obtrusive..Nice find.
