This is a small, unpretentious, family-run restaurant conveniently located close to the famous curved bridge of "La Barra" outside Punta. I visited at my host's suggestion because it's pet friendly and did not regret it. They serve only a handful of fish and red meat dishes as well as whole-grain specialty pizzas. The 'corvina negra' with grilled veggies was tasty and a glass of white wine, a hearty serving of apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and an expresso rounded off a pleasant lunch al fresco. I arrived early and the family staff were friendly and soon after I was seated they brought me my glass of white wine and some warm homemade bread with a delicious aubergine spread. The restaurant quickly filled up and I realized some of the patrons wished the service didn't take so long. A couple waited a while and eventually got up and left. If you're in a hurry, perhaps "La chancha..." is not for you. But if you aren't then you can enjoy a good, inexpensive meal in the shady front garden.

I had heard this restaurant was good but when we walked in, somewhat sweaty and underdressed, I was alarmed to see the elaborate place settings--think many, many forks--and thought oh it's one of those restaurants. That said, we were there late in the afternoon and practically had the place to ourselves. The service was formal but not over the top. And the prices were fair. I'd particularly recommend the trio of ceviche and the chocolate dessert. Both were delicious The decor was a little odd. The walls are hung with paintings of young women in sultry posed. It was a little jarring.

A restaurant that serves good Italian food, but which feels a little like you are sitting in what is mostly a delicatessen where people come to buy food to take away rather than an intimate restaurant. The food was tasty, but it's not my favourite Italian in Montevideo.

Lucca aims simply for good food. With a clear italian heritage, their founders Ignacio Gamio and Sebastian Martin develop an authentic cuisine, that satisfies all the senses and heartens kinfolk connections in the mind. Based in the Old City of Montevideo
We had lunch for 3 people. 2 steaks and 1 corvina fish. They were all incredible. The steak was very large, no fat or gristle, perfect medium. The fish was incredibly fresh and large in portion. They are very slow in service but the quality of food makes up for it. Lunch for 3 was USD $50.Thanks Joseph! you are very much welcome again. Best regards

In full center of Montevideo, since 1962 El Fogón offers the best options of complete barbecue, with select meat for export, sea food, fish and pasta.
This restaurant was recommended by Jeronimo on our walking tour Curioso and it turned out to be a great suggestion. We had a dish of beautifully prepared steak with a lovely bottle of Tante Uruguayan wine Don Pasquale. Juan the owner and Darió (our waiter) provided fabulous service and help. We would highly recommend a visit here for a wonderful meal. The restaurant has been in existence since 1962. annehI3333FT, thank you very much for shareing you experience with us, we hope you come back soon.

Tona is a very nice restaurant and there are actually few of that kind in Montevideo, particularly in the sense of modern stylish dining. Everything in the menu is very good, they have options of more traditional Uruguayan cuisine dishes and also more modern international cuisine. That said, I thought the menu was a bit limited in options. The place itself is great in terms of the style. As for service, I found it to be a bit too much, in the sense that one felt waiters were looking at your table all the time - with the intention of giving a good service for sure - but at times it felt a bit too much. Overall I would say this is a different experience in Montevideo and it is great to have, but it may be a bit overrated just because there are not many similar options in the city.

We had been recommended this restaurant so our expectations were rather high, but even so it surprised us with its excellences.Everything was great - the service, the ambiance, the interior design etc.The food was cooked to perfection and the dishes really elevated all its ingredients. The wine list was also great and the staff were able to give some insightful help in choosing wine.Iâm very restricted when it comes to give spaces a 5 star review, but in this case there are no other options then 5 stars.

Place is very small, only 5 tables so better to book if possible. They offer some cocktails from which we tried two (mojito and gin citric) and they were nicely made. Then we had empanaditas de osobuco and a small pizza as starters; both of them nice although the empanaditas really rocked. They were really good.Pizza's dough was neutral, pre-cooked and standard;toppings were nice. For the main dishes we went for the "lasagna de carne" and "moussaka de cordero". Great options, felt like grandma's cuisine. The only down-side to the experience was their wine menu, which is terribly short and options are not the best. Their fanciest bottle goes for 460 pesos and its a pinot noir. Overall, we had a great dinner, the service was truly good and attentive. Will surely come back.

Great restaurant in Montevideo. Excellent customer service. The place is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is wonderful. My asado was very good and the coffee was great. We asked for ice cream as dessert and this was the only weak point of our dinner as the ice cream is of poor quality. Anyway I loved the place located in a really nice area of Montevideo, El Prado. I will certainly go back to this restaurant.

I have an apartment in Atlántida, so I go often to La Baipa, with my family or alone with my boyfriend. Is a little piece of foodie haven in Atlántida ! I recommend the chocolate brownies and the bizcochos, but everything is delicious, really ! Also I buy their pasta; jam and cheese sorrentinos with caruso sauce, and they rock! Is not a place where you can sit down; it doesn't have tables. Is only for takeaway.
