The "Crotti", typical environments of Chiavenna and its valley are scattered about ninety locations, including the most important is this Pratogiano. Arise out of a window of the natural rock (in dialect "Sorel") from which blows a stream of air at almost
On 21st August we made a day trip to Chiavenna from Lake Como with family friends. We had a lovely time wandering around this beautiful mountain town and we decided we would like to eat in a "Crotto".Chiavenna is famous for "Crotti" A Crotto is a natural cavity in the mountain where the temperature is ideal for storing wine, cheese and local meats.I selected Crotto al Prato and while we were trying to find it, we asked a local for directions and he directed us, saying that we had chosen the best one in Chiavenna. We will be returning - it was fantastic. The staff and the owner were delightful and the local dishes were wonderful and the portions were very generous.Price was very reasonable and the owner told us to take a wonder inside the Crotto to see where all the "goodies" are stored. Check out the photos I took!!If you are in Chiavenna and having lunch , here is one for the short list.Wish I could go to the Festival of the Crotti in September!!

Had a lovely evening here in Chiavenna at the Trattoria del Mercato, shame we couldn't sit out on the terrace but managed to grab a table outside, off the street. I had the argentinian tagliata which was delicious, served with rucola and parmesan cheese, my husband had the veal steak and the rest of the team had the pizzoccheri. Service was a bit slow but the restaurant was packed so......

We enjoyed lunch at this place on hot day comfortably cool right under the ledge. Nice variety of local food at reasonable prices.

Food was top of excellent. Everything just very, very tasty, in particular the risotto porcini (half porcini, half rice). Service okay but not brillant. Awful music from the speakers. Avoid a table in the rear as it is right next to the dish washing.

NEW MANAGEMENT! Crotto Ubiali is born in 1789. The restaurant is completely renovated in the winter of 2017. Opened on December 14 by a new management, the team of the historic Bar Povero Diavolo in Chiavenna. The kitchen offers both traditional Valtellin
Dishes are beautifully presented. I had ravioli stuffed with herbs and covered with violas. An exceptional dish in terms of taste and presentation. As a starter, I had an onion soup, which was so very rich. Not like any onion soup Iâve had before. Tasty, yet too much. Helpful staff

We very much enjoyed dinner at this traditional restaurant. Friendly and efficient staff made for a relaxed evening with lots of good wine and food. Beware the risotto - It is delicious, but enormous and doesn't leave much room for the main course, let alone dessert. We are not sure when we might be in Chiavenna again, but this restaurant almost deserves a special trip to the area.

We dinned at this beautiful restaurant based on recommendation given by my hotel at Lake Como. We drove an hour to reach this well located restaurant, and were served by Joanna. The food we tried here was awesome, and the staff was friendly only until the time we got our bill. This restaurant is frequented by locals, and they don't have many tourists as guests, which is a good thing as you get authentic food, but on the other side they took tourist for a ride with their bill. The prices in the menu were different from what they charged us in the bill. Example Pizzoccheri was priced at â¬14 in menu but was charged at â¬20 in the bill and Rissoto was priced at â¬18 in the menu but was charged to us at â¬24. We asked what was their soup of the day, and we were told it was Mushroom soup, though a very beautiful soup, since the prices were not in the Menu for the soup, we assumed it would be priced similar to other appetizers in the menu. We were shocked to see â¬30 for a soup in the invoice.I would say the food was very good. Given that its a very nice restaurant, good food, we won't have minded paying the prices they charged, but to be fair you cannot charge more than what you put out in your Menu card. I did try asking Joanna about the Soup, and she said its because the mushrooms are high quality and hence the cost. For other items I didn't realise till the time I returned home and compared the prices in the bill with the prices on the menu published online on their website. It was really shocking for us to see a restaurant with such great reputation would act so low.

Crimea restaurant, cuisine with local products, a wide selection of wines from Valtellina panoramic restaurant on the first floor overlooking the park, international cuisine, creative and refined, refined classic atmosphere with fireplace
Chiavenna is the place where " crotti " abound.Crimea is an hotel, centrally located, pretending to offer food as a restaurant, only to justify a higher price.Do'nt be fooled !If it was honest enough to call itself crotto, I would not bother to write about...Lousy food ending up with a factory made "gelato", an outdated wine list with a lame excuse that we are "fuori stagione".I had to content myself with a Morellino di Scansano that I would'nt recommend to my worst enemy and a bill over ⬠40, no first course, no coffee or Digestive. In essence, to be avoided, there are around decent "crotti" where there is value for your money.Up to you...
