Giorno di chiusura: Domenica sera e Lunedi intera giornata.
Wandered around the centre of Cassino (why?) looking for somewhere to eat. Somewhat fortunately came across Gallon L. The antipasto misto della terra kept on coming and it had some excellent 'sides' added on. Fine service and very reasonable prices. Went again as I had the opportunity.

We went because of other TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed. The pasta is freshly made and the waitress gives you a nice warm.welcome.I would suggest you either go early or book as it is very popular with locals a lot of people were turned away.Cost for the food is very reasonable.

The man at the counter was really nice and helpful explaining the pizza and other food such as arancini balls in broken English which we really appreciated. He made a big effort. Pizza is weighed in slices and dishes can be heated if cold. No table service just go up to the counter, point/order and take soft drinks or beers from fridge. He even explained it would be cheaper to buy a bigger bottle of coke than several cans.Pizza and drinks tasty and cheap. Served on a plastic tray on paper plates. There is a small dining room at the counter with character and an outside seating area secluded at the side. Great fun and friendly.

Drove through Cassino today on the way to Picinisco and stopped in at this restaurant well known to locals. Itâs an upmarket restaurant offering quality food. Itâs an Italian version of a tapas bar for lunch. Small menu but quality food and some great local wines. Had the buffalo mozzarella and prawn dish as well as some pastas.

The ' Flying Dutchman is a pizza restaurant on the banks of a scenic lake , whose sinuous forms reminiscent of a stylized sailing ship built in perfect harmony with the green and the surrounding nature . The attention to detail , the pursuit of quality ,
L'Olandese Volate is situated between Cassino and S.Apollinare, Central Italy. This is not a tourist area, should you be in Cassino (larger town) possibly visiting the Monte-Cassino Abbey,it will be a 10 minute drive and trust me, well worth it!!!The owners welcomed us although we had not made supper reservations. It is on a beautiful trout lake, nautical type restaurant. Indoor and outdoor dinning available. The ambiance is beautiful and the food GREAT.Outdoor/indoor wood burning oven, we had primi (antipasto) a wood burning pizza (delicious), I had trout my husband veal. The tiramisu dessert was fabulous with a short espresso.Have the house wine...it is as good as the bottled. Our meal including tip was 55 Euro.Again, if you are in this part of Italy DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!!The owners are husband and wife team, very friendly and will give you a little history on the town, this is not only a place to dine, there is seating around the lake and you are welcome to sit around and have after dinner drinks or a coffee.Go and enjoy!!

Even though Cassino has quite a few things that brings tourists to town, including the Abbey, Roman ruins and WWII sites, it doesn't seem many stay there overnight. The town was completely destroyed during WWII and is not particularly attractive today. On a recent two day stay we wandered into the centre of town from the Best Western on the edge of town looking for a decent trattoria. There are lots of cafes, but we found few true restaurants until stumbling onto Locanda D'Amore near the main piazza. It was early for lunch by Italian standards and we were the only ones there. The place is small with about ten tables inside and a few outside. Decor is simple. The menu simple as well with an emphasis on local fare. While waiting for our food we leafed through several of the books on hand that dealt with the local Roman ruins. The white wine was a local varietal and very good. For antipasti I had an assortment of local cheeses and sausage while my wife had a selection of grilled vegetables. Both were delicious. Pasta e fagioli (pasta with beans) is a local specialty which I ordered and did not regret. My wife had fusilli with eggplant. Also delicious.By the time we were half way through our meal, the place was packed - all locals. This was an inexpensive and delicious meal.
