We were looking for a place to eat for Easter and a friend reccomended this Trattoria. We were a happy bunch of friends and enjoy every plate. Starting from the selection of salami, ham, coppa, insalata russa, home made bread. We then went on the mouth watering ravioli, mushroom lasagne, pansoti with nut source. 4 meat dishes with different types of veg and exceptional potatoes. Three cakes, coffee, grappa, not to forget the different types of wine. You are hoping I'll tell you the price? No sorry, call, book and find out the fantastic surprise. It's a nice place to go especially if you pass by on your motorcycle on want to spend a quiet day with the family.

The Trattoria is on the small piazza of Borzonasca, a village a little less than an hour inland from Chiavari. Our hosts for lunch live in Chiavari, and Stefania's mother spends her summers in the village in a home with terraced gardens, a home which has been in her father's family for more than a century. Stefania and Marco interacted with the staffâincluding the owner, nicknamed "Elvis," who prepared fresh pasta at a work-station in the dining room; all to say my intermediate Italian was not tested, and the choice of dishes was turned over to the restaurant, as Stefania and Marco suggested a "mixed lunch" of around a dozen dishes, which the four of us shared, a leisurely early afternoon meal. There were fine familiarsâthe prosciutto and melon, the mortadella, the focacciaâand there were two dishes I remember best: a chestnut ravioli, and a kind of pesto-topped flatbread called "testaieu." Unsurprisingly, a vegetarian could do well here, in the hills away from the coast. It was my first experience of the classic experience of feeling full five or six courses into an eleven or twelve course meal. The trattoria seats less than fifty, and you walk through a small pub to get to the dining room, which has windows looking on to the river.

We have been here three times now - purposefully, we aim for this place whenever we are in Italy, or at least in the Val Fontanabuona area. This is a wonderful family restaurant, and people drive here from far away to enjoy their bounty, and their wonderful dishes. They are small, local, and terrific on their fritto misto, their ravioli, and anything we have ever eaten has left us groaning with pleasure. Local food, made properly, in the center of town. You could miss it if you weren't aiming for it. Small sign. The town ( Romaggi) is at the top of a hill, with Roman ruins nearby, and a dwindling population in town, a magnificent old church, with bell tower ( companile) and old church organ. Many families from this area ended up in the US, and so families visit when returning.

We visited La Greppia twice during our recent holiday in Liguria and loved it. My husband cannot eat wheat, which rules out pasta, bread, etc., which can make it difficult to eat out in Italy. But on both of our visits, the owners took great care to ensure that he got a wonderful meal -- even removing the pasta from the minestone piece by piece! They really went that 'extra mile' to make our visits memorable. We enjoyed an excellent lunch there for just 16 euros, and returned on our last night for a full dinner which ran to around 50 euros -- including starters, the most expensive main course (beautifully-cooked entrecote with perfectly roasted potatoes), their excellent house wine, water, grappa, coffee and -- a real treat -- freshly-baked warm bread that is served in a paper bag. While this was 'out of bounds' for my husband, I tucked into it with gusto! Then there's the location, with its views of the hills and villages around Pratosopralacroce. La Greppia is the heart of the village, full of welcoming local people. We will definitely be returning next time we visit Liguria.

This place (close to Chiavari, about 10 kilometers) is a very traditional trattoria where you can arrive and ask for the set menu (which includes different options) and eat the best. Of the Ligurian food. There is absolutely no way that you will get out of this restaurant hungry. Food is a lot and prices are cheap (and most of the things you eat have been done by them). If you have the chance don't miss it. If you are going in the afternoon or night make a reservation (the tables outside are super nice).

We came across this restaurant by chance and it was a highlight of the holiday. We arrived at 2pm in a Sunday with no reservation, starving. The restaurant was packed Italian families and not another tourist in sight. The hosts took pity on us and set us up on a table outside under the trees, warning us they couldnât provide much. Despite their warnings what then followed was a five course feast - no menu it just kept coming- of tradition Italian food. Utterly delicious and a great experience. Thank you!
