We came here for the Guinness and we left very happy (unlike the bartender), possibly the best Iâve tasted anywhere across Ireland.First day we sat inside and there was a good atmosphere and the second day we sat in the hot sunshine out front and chatted with some locals.I canât speak of anything but the Guinness really but worth visiting just to sample it here.

Our private tour guide booked us a stay at Aliceâs on Achill Sound/entry to the Achill Islands. Such a peaceful, breathtaking place. It was magical! The food was so fresh, delicious and served quickly!! The owners were always checking in to ensure your stay was optimal! This is a hidden gem you should not miss!!

Come to Connaughton's Bar (part of the Achill Sound Hotel) for a quick lunch bite, full evening meals or an evening pint and chats with Peter and the Connaughton family about the local area.
Our family stopped in one afternoon for lunch. My son and husband had fish and chips, one of the best we've had while in Ireland. The fish was a good sized filet and was perfectly cooked. It was excellent! My daughter, the vegetarian had a burrito, which was good. I had a smoked salmon and prawn salad plate. It was excellent as well. The hospitality and service were the best we received on our entire trip. The owner was incredibly gracious and welcoming. The hotel was recommended to us biy my cousin, who lives in a neighboring county. After we paid the bill, the owner came outside and gave us an Achill magnet. Highly recommend it.

I ate in the chalet with a group of 10 people. All the food that was brought to the table looked and tasted amazing. Presentation was great and taste was even better. I had the mackerel to start and it was cooked to perfection, accompanied by a delicious salad. I had chicken as a main course and it too, was lovely. The desserts were fabulous, each one looking nicer than the next. The prices reflect the quality and freshness of the food. If youâre looking for cheap and cheerful, go to the chipper down the road.

Modern cafe and traditional pub on Achill Island, serving great food and drink in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Atmospheric pub with lovely peat fires, even in August. Our group was warmly welcomed for coffee and excellent scones and then later back for lunch. Plenty of room and friendly service.

We went in the cafe part the other day. We have 2 young children. There were 2 tables free, we chose the one near the back beside the service counter as we had buggies and not wanting to be in peoples way. As soon we sat the girl gave us the menu, didnât offer a baby chair and didnât see one on the cafe. After 15 mins no order was taken and no one came to us. We tried to get a waitresses attention for so long. Then 3 people walked in and took the other table that was free. Within 10 minutes there orders were taken and coffee was delivered to their table. Waitress kept looking at our table but purposely not making eye contact so we couldnât get her attention. After choosing quiet a bit of food from their menu we decided to walk out after 15/20 mins. They decided to service the other table first and sold 3 coffee therefore loosing a sale of â¬30 plus euros. Donât recommend this place at all.

The Amethyst Bar is a new Gastro Pub, frequented by both locals and visitors alike and renowned for its relaxed, spacious and welcoming atmosphere. Built on the site of the old Amethyst Hotel which was associated with John Lennon and Yoko Ono and was the
Recently visited the Amethyst restaurant for a family celebration. We received a great welcome from the manager. The staff upstairs were engaging to a point, but on occasion we were left with no service at all. It was hard to get their attention. The food is average. You can order anything from a burger and chips to duck. The food needs some attention. The portion sizes are just too big. They leave little room for the main course or dessert. The prawns are rather disappointing. Expected something special as Achill prides itself on its seafood. The steak was on the tough side rather than been juicy. Fish and chips, and curry went down well with the rest of the party. Food is reasonably priced. I will go back but will make sure I only order the main course. It was definitely food overload. With a fine bit of tuning, this could be a great spot to visit.
